In A Pit of Passion!

Sunday, May 31, 2009

I've always assumed that there was some amount of studio editing happening on Michael Angelakos's super-tenor vocals from the oh so danceable Passion Pit. But after seeing their show at the Glasshouse in Pomona last night, let me tell you, these kids are all talent. After hitting LA, playing at the Troubadour and the Echoplex the two nights before, Passion Pit got Pomona moving after Cale Parks and Harlem Shakes warmed up the crowd.

They played everything we wanted to hear, "Sleepyhead" to "The Reeling" in their encore, both songs from their debut full length Manners. I don't think I've danced that hard at a show in a long long time, or seen people dancing so much either! And we're talking dancing at a show in Orange County, where everyone likes to stand still so their fedoras and Wayfarers don't fall off! If you have a chance to catch this band while they are on this tour, it's definitely worth the dough.

Check out their video for "The Reeling"!

Friday, March 27, 2009

Happy Friday! What's up everyone? We've had the amazing pleasure of hanging out and listening to the Company of Thieves, our latest guests on BLURS. BLURS is our recording session and we've got lots of artists on the way, just for you! Chicago's Company of Thieves is Mike Ortiz, Genevieve Schatz and Marc Walloch. They have an amazing new album out called Ordinary Riches and you can get it on iTunes. For our session, they performed acoustic versions of In Passing, Oscar Wilde, and Fire Song. Also they performed When The City Waves, You Must Learn to Swim from a summer released EP called Tourniquet. Your ears also get an awesome acoustic cover of John Lennon's Instant Karma. Thanks so much to Wind Up Records and our whole crew. Enjoy!

Your Clubbin' Weekend Needed This!

Sunday, January 13, 2008

Whether you need to brush up on your dancing skills in the living room, or the club DJ couldn't "cut" it for you last night, we got you covered. And Yes, we've had our moments with rap song-to-song fade in/out DJ sets and lighting that makes you sit and calculate how cheap it all costs at your local party store. Luckily for us there's Mark Farina! He's done up over a dozen releases but we wanted to touch up on his latest, Live In Tokyo. This 72 minute beat-for-beat dance stream packed album was recorded live last summer in Tokyo and released few months ago from the underground giants Om Records (Samantha James, Sessions, Colette).

He's made some sweet selections on this album including Myungho Choi, Dan Cummings and Leon Louder with some of that rad organ keyboard throughout. This is definitely one of best dance electronic albums and just another everyday boasting of Farina's skills. Head on over to his site to hear and see more including Muchroom Jazz, Session mixes etc. Also get this album now here. And of course we got some of them tracks for you to sample. Get some of that chill funk now!

Also check out Farina live spinnin' at your local spot.

RADIO 1's Live Lounge Volume 2!!!

Thursday, November 01, 2007

Following the success of the Radio 1's Vol. 1 CDs, we finally have the Vol. 2 with even more awesome live covers. I was super excited about this CD because of the line-up including Corinne Bailey Rae, Damien Rice, Coldplay, and KT Tunstall. These are all live covers, many with an acoustic feel and often times they get jazzy- are real good twist to these pop songs.
A lot of comps and various artists CDs usually don't have 40 songs! This 2-CD collection is a great party background, and it's cheesy but people will definitely be asking where you got it. Way to be in the music-know! It's a great listen all the way through. Radio 1's Live Lounge Vol. 2 was released on the 22nd and it's quickly on it's way up to a top seller. Get yours here. We Got some tracks for you and the playlist. Enjoy!
