Happy Birthday Dear Royksopp!
Tuesday, December 23, 2008
Royksopp, Norway's duo Svein Berge & Torbjørn Brundtland, have recently celebrated their birthday and of course created a brand new track just for that reason. I guess this technically makes then 10 years old so I'd say it's an appropriate milestone to celebrate. The track "Happy Birthday" has been getting more play than a bad rapper thanks to the BBC, and Annie Mac over at Radio One...oh yea not to mention they are Royksopp. I guess the amount of streams just from the sight alone has totalled over 50,000! Yikes. THey've been rather quiet for a couple years but probably working on masterpiece genius soundwaves. Here's the track and one of my favorite music videos!

Something Neat From Pogo
Thursday, July 03, 2008

Okay okay I know you guys have already seen this, but I wanted to post it for our friends who need things to be compiled into one place. I think the Aussie, Nick Bertke aka
Pogo, is definitely onto something dope here with his electronic down tempoey ambient steez. His awesome sampling skills have amounted to the viral videos Alice and White Magic which seems to me like "sampling" from videos to the sounds as well. I read somewhere that 80+% of the sounds are actually from the Disney animated movies Alice in Wonderland and Sword In The Stone. Whatever it is, they are sure dope to watch. Watch these vids, and then download the songs to take with you!

Surviving Freedom: Uncensored Remixes & Nauhgty Bits via
Expansion Team Records in May! I love this album as it will be in biggie rotation. It features remixes and the like from label mates Balun, No Luck Club, etc. as well as an over 43 minute 4-part DJ set from Genji's alter ego, PushToBreak! You're gonna find lots of the ambient texts, some downtempo, rad random samplin and dancey junk, my fav being the organs on PushtoBreak's remash of
TransfiguRingFreeWish. Check these tracks, and get the album when it drops in May 20th.

The Delicacies Of Alison Goldfrapp...
Tuesday, February 12, 2008

I've been waiting for a new album from UK's
Goldfrapp after all the rumors and sounds floating through the internet's infinite rivers of information...and finally February 25th will be the end of the wait. Seventh Tree,
Goldfrapp's 4th full-length, is droppin' with your not-so
traditional Goldfrappuccino; less is more. Alison brings up a good point, her voice. After listening to the album it's apparent that she's gone "warmer" on this album. Little bit less of the busy pop dance electronics that you'd expect and more swisher ambient, more downtempo-ey sound. Don't get me wrong, still got pop you can catch on to and love, but it's less on the dance floor and more on the break of dawn roadtrip. Something you can relax to. Dig it!

JazzClub Presents Electric Jazz Lounge!
Wednesday, October 17, 2007

I love these various artist mixes of lounge music gone digital. If you're into electronic and jazz, then these are no brainers. This is just another great mix of lounge. Electric Jazz Lounge reminds us of some of the earlier
Mocha Nova Cafe mixes over at
Hellthy. Not super chilled, Lo-fi down tempo of gentle mellow beats of bigs like Courtney Pine and Nina Simone. This album comes out on Import on October 23rd, but you can pre-order
here. It's got some great rare and import stuffs. You gotta check it out!

If I Had A Dog, I'd name him TEMPO!
Wednesday, August 29, 2007

So that when he would jump on people I'd say "DOWN TEMPO!"...I'm so serious that's gonna happen one of these times. Just you wait. Anyways I was flippin through some tunes and found two downtempo/electronic/chill songs and couldn't wait to share them. Then I thought, why not a whole mix? Why the picture of sushi? That's a pic of my friend's dish at Komasa in Little Tokyo, one of our favorite joints, the dish is called
Chirashizushi, it's a mixture of deliciousness. I mention it cause ideally listening to downtempo, eating sushi, reading the news with a light breeze is where I want to be right now! If you're into it, check out these songs and find a good spot! Biking at the beach at night will work too if you're coastin' it.
Okay okay okay, so it was supposed to be 5 songs, and I know lots of these tracks have different influences like jazz and electronic etc, but come on now, it's good ain't it?
