Devendra Banhart's Art Shoulder To Shoulder With Paul Klee's at SFMOMA
Friday, December 07, 2007

(Art Piece Above By Paul Klee)
One of the most soul-stirring and exciting things I stumbled upon when I was up in San Francisco about a week ago with some amigos, was an exhibit The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) put on. It is called
Abstract Rhythms: Paul Klee and Devendra Banhart.
Paul Klee was a Swiss Expressionist Painter (1879-1940) who wove images consisting of beautiful simplicity and sometimes overwhelping (yes, I said overwhelping) array of colors and random shapes that just make you truly pause and ponder. He was an accomplished violinist who had performed in concerts and his art was very much influenced by music. Coming from a family of musicians probably helped add to this inspiration. He then went on to branch out into drawing, printmaking, and paintings. After all, does not art and music not go hand in hand and "correspond like puzzle pieces" (As Ben Gibbard points out)?

Alongside Paul Klee's display of pieces are abstract folk singer
Devendra Banhart's 13 pieces, all on paper and mainly composed of varied ink colors. The warm tones and strange abstractions, yet comforting pieces of Devendra's are as eye-catching as Paul Klee's and go oh-so-very-well together. Some of the artwork displayed is from Devendra's most recent September release, Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon (XL Recordings), many of the other pieces seeming to go very well along with the album's theme. This album is a cluster and work recorded in a house in Topanga Canyon area of LA with some comrades of Devendra's including Gael Garcia Bernal, Pete Newsome, Vetiver's Andy Cabic, and Vashti Bunyan, among many many others.

If you can make it up to San Francisco anytime soon (or live there), you can get a double-treat if you go on January 17th. There is a live, mostly acoustic, performance by Devendra Banhart at 8pm at the
Phyllis Watts Theater.
This exhibition is on display from now - February 24, 2008. Go!

The GO! Team Continues To Prove Their Youth!
Wednesday, October 03, 2007
The sophomore effort of the
GO! Team is even better than the first album. It's just powerpacked with a crazy array of samples, tambourines and that super catchy playground rock. We would say it perfectly compliments the GO! Team's sound progressively moving to a massive party with the kind of album that you could pop into any CD player for a guaranteed good time.
Proof Of Youth rocks a 36 minute loud soulful often times 70s era funk tv show theme song except in a much hipper extended form. Just lots of
Kick. If you picked up the album, you know
exactly what I mean. Check out these songs now!
The album dropped on September 11th off of Columbia Records here in the U.S. and is being played in heavy rotation all over including mashups and remixes. There are some excellent ones out there! Also check out their
tour! They'll be at the
Glasshouse on the 20th, and the following night at the

Broken Social Scene Presents...Kevin Drew..& the BSS Crew
Tuesday, October 02, 2007

What started as a duo to an awesome some odd number multimember group is now down to the solo works of Kevin Drew, Sort of. "
Spirit If..." came out on Sept. 18th from
Arts&Crafts and is supposed to be just the first of many "Broken Social Scene Presents" albums. It was a lot less solo and more of the awesome BSS goodness from the past as Kevin invites former bandmates, contributors, and vocalists to the
scene. You got your Leslie Feist, Emily Haines (Metric), Amy Millan (Stars) and a slew of instrumentalists from past projects and meets collaborating into tracks. The Harmonies, the slightly-er softer indie sound, and this overall
sonic embeded album rich with lyrics, is an awesome leeway into future projects that keep me wondering who will be on the next album and what to expect as far as sound goes. Either way I just listened to the entire album and it definitely gets our recommendation to go
pick it up. Please check out these songs to entice you a little and then go get the album.
Drew will be bringing his crew out for a
U.S. tour starting at the end of the month, for the Locals, Oct. 30th,
Orpheum Theater up in LA with one of our favs New Buffalo. Support that!

Watching The City Sinking slowly Out Of View
Sunday, September 30, 2007

It was a relaxing and sorry we left y'all hangin, I got a handful of emails asking for new posts! So here to start us off (if you start your weeks on Sundays) is a new album from
Saturday Looks Good To Me. I'm actually a new fan, they've been around since 99 and I started diggin' "Lift Me up" when it dropped a couple years ago. If you guys are unfamiliar, SLGTM definitely brings an indie-pop element with writer/producer Fred Thomas (who used to be in His Name is Alive!)arranging with a talented line-up. Saxophones, synths, handclaps with harmonies and harpischord, display a good span of sound ranging from acoustic to catchy melodies worthy of 60s, 70s 4/4 rock beat ballads.
"
Fill Up The Room" is the 4th album out from
K Records and will be available for your listening ears on Oct. 23! but you can pre-order now! SLGTM will be going around for an
awesome tour so be sure to catch them and for the LA folks,
The Echo, Nov. 10th/6pm/$10. By the way, these songs make way good for travelling road trip music. Just Imagine it.

Here We Go, Here we Go Go, To Idaho!
Thursday, September 27, 2007

I know everything we say on here is biased to what we like, but we try to be fair, I think, but today is even worse!
Finest Dearest is a band hailing from the Bay Area and they bring us some melodic indie rock with the vocal harmonies reminiscent of my high school favs. I first caught attention to them cause they sing a song called IDAHO! Which is totally and completely awesome because that's where I'm originally from. But luckily this band makes fun indie music so it's not ONLY because they have a song called Idaho. We got two songs for you from their
Pacemaker EP and you can hear more
here.
Also Finest Dearest will be performing TONIGHT so Go check'em out at

Sally's 2nd New Buffalo: Somewhere, Anywhere!
Tuesday, September 25, 2007

I'd have to say the fact that she's married to Darren Seltmann of the
Avalanches is really cool and rather interesting. I'm not saying you gotta make the same style music but yea...I guess I'm kind of saying that. Sally Seltmann has been
New Buffalo for actually quite a while but has been on and off and working with different artists like
Jens Lekman. In late March, off the
Arts&Crafts label, Sally kicked out her new album
Somewhere, Anywhere. We love our synth-pop tunes and Sally does it well with her keyboards and vocal harmonies. Her catchy piano playing and those light vocals make for easy favorites. If you listen carefully, sometimes there are some really strange electronic sounds in her songs. Happy Happy Happy!
New Buffalo will be rollin' through the U.S. in a short 8 city tour including Oct. 30th at the
Orpheum Theatre in LA with
Stars.

The MUSIC That Brings Back Old Memories
Monday, September 24, 2007

Just yesterday in the car we were talking about my favorite bands from high school. One of the bands that really got me into music was
Jimmy Eat World. They have been one of my favorites for a long time but not a hardcore fan with only seeing them perform live 6 times. Take it back: High school, Sophomore year, my first song I heard was Blister from
Clarity album which was arguably their
best. I would later receive that album as a gift from a good friend. I was hooked as I quickly discovered
Static Prevails. These songs are backgrounds to a lot of memories and feelings, you all know what I mean! They would go on to make two more albums with a consistent sound balancing rock and a softer side which gained my attention early on.
About 3 years later, JEW is back with
Chase This Light dropping on October 16th with a full tour kickin'-off at the
Prochnow Auditorium in Flagstaff. The New album has that same poppy-ness of Bleed America accompanied by lots of guitar shreds. And of course the inevitable radio-fever songs for the masses including the emotional feeding for 12 year old girls, but still gotta love them. For more go
here and
here. Check out the single now!
My other older favs: Saves The Day, Get Up Kids, Julianna Theory, etc....

The Harlem Shakes & The Burning Birthdays EP
Monday, September 17, 2007

We actually wrote about these guys in the past, they've got nothing new out, and they are not really on tour. I decided to post them up because simply I love their music. I really hope they are working on a full length, which would only make sense at this point.
The Harlem Shakes released their "
Burning Birthdays EP" earlier this year and it's definitely worth a good listen. Just plain good indieness with some swankin' vocals, stuff I wish I coulda listened to in high school. Alright Enough said check'em out!

If You Believe That, Darling You'd Better Run, Run!
Thursday, September 13, 2007

Of all the productive things that made today great, these guys topped it for me. Probably one of the best composition of sounds I have heard in a long time, and if you don't know by now, I love bands that can pull off cross over clashing combinations of genres from song to song.
Mr. Hudson & The Library have quickly become one of my favorites.
Their debut album, "
A Tale Of Two Cities" is off the
Deal Real Records label. The name of the album was inspired by the origins of the band members, Some are from Birmingham and some are from London. Nice and Easy. The album came out over 6 months ago (man I'm losing it!) and they are currently touring. They've opened for Erykah Badu, Amy Whinehouse, and Groove Armada to name a few.
They have 80s influences, mixed with synths, drum machines, a little jazz, and a whole bunch of subtle lyrics over beats with a little dance. Underlined indie rock harmonies with R&B pop some-a-some. Another Heavy rotation, and an album definitely worth pickin' up! First enjoy these tracks and you'll know exactly what I mean.
By the way, who do you think they sound like? Leave us a Comment!

Luciano Sauza's New Bossa Nova
Tuesday, September 11, 2007

I haven't written much about Jazz for a while, but the truth is that the Jazz world is thriving and it's really good to see that. I see a broader appreciation for Jazz even though many of the greats have passed on. There isn't a day that passes by where I don't find myself wanting to look for other jazz lovers and see their reactions when they describe how a certain song makes them feel. I love it. I was sitting with a nice older lady at a Border's talking about her favorite 50s Ella Fitzgerald LPs and her sharing almost alleviated my alienation, conversely it was ironic because she was a lot older. Good stuff, I will go more often.
A part of Jazz that I love is the
Bossa Nova, literally "New Trend" which I won't even begin to go into the maticulous details of it's origins or it's 60s wave of immense popularity growth here in the U.S. Recently I was working on a television show and one of our audience guests was Brazillian there with his mother. I would name a popular Bossa favorite and she would sing it. It was a 20 minute dream come true. One of the reasons why I love it so much is because it tells not only stories of love, but of culture simply because it's birth is synonymous with the culture in which is "derived" from. I could go one for days.
There are so many awesome new artists and bands out there but I recently re-discovered the solace vocals of
Luciana Souza after digging around in search for something good. She is no lightweight. She's been nominated 3 times for a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocalist and continues to do work with renowned Jazz musicians. Her 7th album, "
The New Bossa Nova" is her first from
The Verve record label and probably one of her most interesting. It's definitely good but this seems to be an unfamiliar approach from Souza. The album has two originals and then several generally more jazz classic songs that are pushed with a Bossa twist. Souza also used a full band with her that takes on the task of re-creating classics and pop songs. It's something old but
different. These pop-bossa-remakes of Elliot Smith, Sting, Joni Mitchell and others are awesome for any Bossa Nova lover.
The album came out 3 weeks ago! I just got my copy today. If you like what you hear below, go out and get it. My favorite song on this album is her re-make of "Aguas de Marco" by the late legendary
Antonio Carlos Jobim. Again, it's just
good stuff.
Alright that's all for me, I'm heading out of the office with this fresh peach green tea. You gotta get some! Oh yea we also got a new mp3 player thanks to the genius of our new friend
Dan Kantor. Also check out this wonderful
review/article written by our friend Ernest which goes into detail about the Braziliam music documentary film "

TGIF! Let The Birds Out Of Your Chest
Friday, September 07, 2007

It's ultra quiet here in the studio, definitely Friday. It's also freezing in here! You know when you go to a movie theater during the afternoon, you come out and it's super bright outside? I sorta get that feeling when I'm in my cold office and then I step outside afterwork and it's nice and warm. Know what I mean? But anyways I'm excited for the weekend!
Before you guys head out, I recently discovered the beautiful acoustic sounds of
Band in Box. Swedish native, Siri af Burén, is behind the ukelele, clarinets, pianos, flutes and violins you'll hear throughout these extremely soothing layed back songs. Her debut album will be released sometime next year off of
Stereo Test Kit Records and will contain more of this lightly distorted multi-instrumental, lapsed harmony vocals, and this element of slow/quiet that forces me to think about my life as a music video going on a long trip somewhere. Hear for yourself!
P.S. Please comment and say Hi!, and let us know where you are from!!
Have a great weekend!

New Gems: The Most Serene Republic's Population
Tuesday, September 04, 2007

My first listen with the
Underwater Cinematographer album quickly became an instant favorite to the ears. But I actually discovered them from a remix they did of a Stars song, "Ageless Beauty" which was on my playlist for quite sometime. Turns out
The Most Serene Republic and
Stars are both on the Awesome
Art & Crafts label with others such as
Phoenix,
Feist, and
Los Campesinos! to name a few.
I love female/male vocal harmonies, throw in a violin, a trombone, with several guitars & piano, and you get a really awesome experimental sound unique in several layers mixed with some pop and electronics.
Population continues their progression of beautiful instrumentals and contains tracks carefully crafted where you can comfortably listen to the entire album without lurking in fears of a "not-as-good" song. It really sucks when you buy a CD that has only a couple of good songs, but NO MORE atleast with TMSR. Check out their past albums and you'll know
exactly what I mean.
TMSR's HIGHLY HIGHLY anticipated new album drops Oct. 2nd, unfortunately/fortunately the album somehow leaked on the internet. If you already have it, and you dig it, show your love to these Canadians, by pickin' up the CD
here when it drops, you'll be glad you did. Also be ready to mark your calendars for their upcoming
tour dates!

One of our favorite
Northwesters are back!
Minus the Bear will be kickin' off the "Planet of Ice Tour" next week (at a gazillion venues) in lieu of their new album, "
Planet of Ice," which I think sounds a bit heavier on the guitars, little lighter on the electronics but the same inbetween instrumental breakdowns that I love. There new album came out last week and BBQs got some of the tracks for you to check out!
If you are in the LA area be sure to mark your calendars for Nov. 3rd at the Avalon and/or
Glass House the next night. They'll be touring with the unpredictable likes of
Subtle (Check out

Ela so it should be an awesome show!

LAST NIGHT: The Koop Islands Tour Live @ The El Rey Theatre, Los Angeles
Thursday, August 16, 2007

Many Thanks to our friends over at
KCRW for guest listin' us for last night's show. The
Koop, Swedes duo-Magnus Zingmark & Oscar Simonsson, along with a great line up, performed one of the best shows we've seen this summer! They performed
Waltz For Koop favorites like "Tonight" and "Baby" as well as several pieces from last year's
Koop Islands release.

The Line up: the lovely Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen on the Mic, Karl Frid on trumpet/percussions with his suspenders and slicked back hair, Mattias Stahl on Marimbas/Vibraphone with his amazing 4 stick mad skills, Martin Hoper on Bass, and Ola Bothzèn on the Drums...white tops, suspenders, added to the very classy show with an eclectic audience, not to mention the ambiance of the
El Rey. Other than this crunk-a-saurus too early-too much girl being totally wack!, it was a
beautiful show, and you can tell the band was havin' a great time which really adds a lot to the performance.

Best Moments: Hilde Louise came back out with a different dress, When the bass and drum were
feeding off eachother in a swingin' jam session with a layed out track from the Mac. Small Solos and last but not least, TWO encores!!! You just can't beat Two encores from the Koop. If you haven't heard of the Koop, no worries, we got you
covered. Think Jazz-a-tonic + Electro-acoustic + real live swingin' sounds, loungey vocals and you're halfway there.

Chill out to these tracks this weekend!

More More Music from the UK!
Wednesday, August 15, 2007

Our Danish friend,
Lasse, has just emailed me about his adventures to
Roskilde fest, which one day I hope to go. For us over here it is pretty similar to
Coachella but it's perhaps the largest outdoor music fest in the Euro world. I checked out some of the bands he mentioned and we are constantly reminded that theres a lot of good stuff out there!
Mystery Jets is one of the bands from the UK I've recently discovered to fit the bill. Somehow the vocals + harmonies + parts of composition remind me of the Killers combined with Beirut with whoever, and people say this is a bad thing but I like it. And you can't tell me the "la la la's" aren't great, come on now. Check out these songs!
If you are gonna be in the LA area come end of September, Mystery Jets will be performing at
Cinespace on the 25th! Okay Happy Wednesday!

Early Case of the Mondays with ILLUMINEA!
Sunday, August 12, 2007

Before even listening to the tracks, I was excited from the lists of instruments that are played in these songs. I have never heard of a lot of them such as flugelhorn, celeste, ebows, glockenspiel, sousaphone, timpani...well you get the point, eiher these are unfamiliar to you too or I'm just instrumentally
ignorant. This 7 piece band from Philly masterfully creates an energy filled and
true genre crossing instrument fusion. Tan Panda and I are often discussing my
love for albums that have so many perspectives of sound from a single band!
Illuminea does it with various vocals, subtle folk to upbeat, and with a
slew of additional performers. You won't quite know until you get the new album, "Out Of Our Mouths" droppin' the 21st but you can
pre-order now! If you are in the Philly area you can catch them for their CD-Release show on Friday @ Johnny Brenda's.

Whimsical is a good word!
Wednesday, August 08, 2007

It sounds completely dumb, but I stumbled upon one of the songs off of "The End of History" because of it's name. Hey I'm just being honest, sometimes people will click things that sound
good. Irish born
Fionn Regan (pro. Fin Ray-gen) reminds me of a Nick Drake-ish, but lighter and sometimes faster. Brittle double tracked harmonies comebines with subtle and sometimes folky acoustics, and song writing with fragile influences of late novelists, really makes the
whimsical-ness. It's a good word to sum it up! Do you ever listen to music and think about where in your life it would fit best? I would say me driving on a roadtrip while everyone else in the car is sleeping, or my back patio with tea and a good read. Know what I mean? Check some of his songs out below and if anyone caught the show last night at the awesome Hotel Cafe, hit us up and tell us how he was!

Wednesday, August 01, 2007

Jackie Chan is such a sweet sweet sweet man, yet very violent. Yay! The whole night both him and Chris Tucker were showin' mad love to eachother. It was cute as crud! Common opened with "The People" off his new album
Finding Forever, which dropped yesterday. He had a buncha people backin' him up on stage. He went on to perform "U, Black Maybe", "Drivin' Me Wild" along with one of my older favs: "The Light"...Mid performance he did a 5 minute freestyle and I was way impressed. Not cause he could but cause he wasn't flowin with words like duck, chuck and ....

What up friends, I have some pictures from Saturday night. It was a super rad show. Our friend Libbie Linton rocked and she performed one of my favorite songs, "What's Left" which was totally awesome live. Everyone else played beautifully. It was a show where I liked all the bands which is rarely the haps. Hope y'all had swell weekends. Sometimes when we are in the car, or anywhere else, we like to pretend we can freestyle. Monday, July 23, 2007

When I first heard "Paris is Burning" I instantly took note of the fluctuations of the song and Annie Clark's vocals right on point. Her new album, "
Marry Me" dropped at your music store earlier this month. If you haven't already picked it up, do so now! It's a little soul, rock and indietronic mished in with clapping, tambourines, trumpets, choirs etc.
St. Vincent, is just one of the products of her incredible talent. Her multi-instrumentalist skillz stretch into acts such as
The Polyphonic Spree (scroll down) and Sufjan Steven's travelling band to name a couple. Earlier this year she toured with
Jollie Holland (serious blues). I can't believe she is only 23!! She's one of those people that make you wonder what you've been doing your whole life. sadness =) Check out these tracks!
If you are over here with us on the West Coast, definitely go see her at

I am really diggin' Hrishikesh Hirway's mixture of ambient, electronic, folky postrock. It doesn't hurt either that his voice overlaying all that creates a subtle compliment to an acoustic piece.
The One Am Radio is the solo project however on the road, Hirway is accompanied by a changing line-up. With their 3rd album out, Hirway's project is just getting better and better. And luckily for us he is part of the LA local scene. Hope we can catch him somewhere soon! Support the local scene and check out these awesome songs!

The Sweet Sorrows of Misha
Saturday, June 30, 2007

There's something about electro-pop that goes
great with summer, and pretty much all the other seasons. Whether you're just chill-beachin' some lazy days or busy at work, we found something everyone can enjoy!
Misha is the NYC indietronic efforts of Ashley Yao & John Chao, with their friends Nunu and Andrew. I find that a lot of experimental bands don't always cut it with the lyrics, but this pop duo's songs are filled with pain & sorrow and happiness. The new Album "Teardrop Sweetheart," which dropped last week on
Tomlab, is an awesome combination of songwriting and a wide array of sounds from song to song. It's fresh electric from the first track to the next. Put'em in your summer mixes now!

Elephant Parade and their Bedroom Recordings!
Thursday, June 28, 2007

Don't they look
peaceful lying there in the grass? I think I need to do some of that too.
Elephant Parade is
Estelle and
Ido. This dreamy pop duo combines super laid back whisp-ish vocals with acoustic guitar and fun catchy Casio/piano melodies. You can definitely listen to this music while laying down in your favorite park, I promise it'll be worth it. Based on some of their
show pictures, they sit right next to eachother playing on the same keyboard, which is
totally rad. They toured briefly so we probably won't get a chance to see them live...sucks. EP released an LP "Bedroom Recordings" last year and got great feedback. We have 3 songs for you to check out!

New Mum! Go Go Smear My Poison Ivy...
Friday, June 22, 2007

The names of the
Múm albums were always so interesting. Either they are obvious and I just don't get it right away, or they are in fact in need of explanation. "Go Go Smear My Poison Ivy, Let your Crooked Hands be Holy" drops September 25th from
FatCat. Unfortunately
Kristín Valtýsdóttir isn't with the band anymore, but she
is however still making music!
This new track has more pop but still has that Múm feel. We really like the vocals on this one and look forward to the album release!
Have a Great Weekend!

MICE PARADE @ the Echo & Quick 6 Mix!
Friday, June 08, 2007
Last Night's show was supposed to start at
8:30 @ the
Echo. But the case wasn't the time nor venue. Due to serious technical/crapped systems & stuff not working, the show moved downstairs to Echoplex, begun around
10:30! The Echoplex is such a sweet venue and you can tell by the seating, larger stage, & the
clean bathrooms! (unheard of). Here are some pic of the show.
Kira Kira,
Caroline, and
Tom Brosseau opened with shorter sets w/ regards to time but Tom really rocked. Kira Kira played (played with) a lot of...things. Sounds like Mum + Sigur Ros.

Mice Parade is an anagram of Adam Pierce, the band's lead. The set included the usual ensemble; Doug Scharin of HiM, vibraphonist Dylan Cristy of Dylan Group (who last night was also lead clapper), Caroline "filling" Kristín's vocals (who did her a short 4-5 song set as an opener), & I especially took note of Dan Lippel's awesome strumming. Adam also doubled & bounced with Doug on a 2nd drum kit for "Nights Wave" if I remember correctly. Caroline did an awesome job w/ "Boatroom" from Bem Vinda-Vontade. They also played a few off their latest self titled album including "Tales of Las Negras" & "Sneaky Red"...If only the set was longer....
Quick 6 Mix
I have a lot of new music but haven't had the time to listen to much of it, but here are some picks of the week. They are all pretty indie-poppppy-ness!

Other thoughts: I am really sleepy. Aung San Suu Kyi is the illest. People should read the news. Helping someone move is tough stuff. I've been listening to lots of Corinne Bailey Rae. If 31 songs doesn't help you, I ultra apologize. The bathroom at work is extremely comfortable, like your home. Texting while you drive is stupid. Midweek Music Mix! Food for your Ears!
Tuesday, April 24, 2007

I'm really liking the new
Blonde Redhead album "23" which has a great consistent sound with their other stuff. They are actually playing tomorrow at the Glass House and I am guessing the tickets are long gone. They will also be performing at
Coachella with a gazillion awesome bands! I will do a short Coachella entry next week for some of my favorite bands playing. Something totally strange: The hits on my site go up around 75-120 hits on average a day. Who the crap is looking at this site? If you are reading this, hit me up with a comment. I'm curious. Alright here is some new music and some old favorites for the early midweek mix!
Blonde Redhead -
23Mice Parade has come out with a self-titled new 7th album on
FatCatRecs. For me it is
highly anticipated. Beautiful new instrumentals with Kristen Anna Vattysdottir on the mics (and other interesting instruments). With Peirce's lead, Kristen's voice becomes less creepish and more
essential to the sound. When it's there, it's there. Mice Parade will be ending their U.S. tour on the westcoast with 3 shows in California then heading off to Japan and Taiwan. You will definitely see me at the
Echo in LA on Jun, 07th. The new CD is dropping the 8th of May.

Lately I have been listening to a lot of hip hop, soul, remixes, jazz, bossa nova, and funk. I got so much to share so let's start with these songs:
Welsh songwriter
Jem has an awesome track mixed by Cut Chemist
Jem -
They (Cut Chemist Vocal Mix)Sean told me about these guys a while back, he was helping them with their shows or something. These LA locals mix this jazzy, swingin, bouncy break piece swell.
Free the Robots -
JazzholeRemember
Bosco Mann? Eastcoasters Sharon Jones and the Dap-kings kickin' a dope soul/funk track from their 02' release.
Sharon Jones & Dap-Kings -
Got a thing on my MindI think I like this version

x 10 today.
Lyrics Born -
I Changed My Mind (Stereo MCs Rattlesnake Remix)This dude George is combining all kinds of stuff like electronic, ambient, acid house, trip-hop and you know the rest under all sorts of DJ names. This is a
sweet new track off of last month's release, "
In a Space Outta Sound"
Nightmares on Wax -
The SweetestKibler slaps the funk and jazz together with the
scratch. Keep your ears open for that organ electronic sound with the Cuban drum. Cuban? yes!? Collab of 9 guys on this rad track.
DJ Logic -
Afro Beat That should help for a weekend drive. More where that came from in the next couple days,
check back!
Our little actress peakin' through our faux fence infront of the faux Rosebush garden. SOme of that Lights, camera, Action! stuff. I can't wait to see the finished result. I love 24p by the way, it looks awesome.

Emi Meyer, Nike+, and Weekend Rotation!
Friday, March 30, 2007
Last Wednesday we saw singer/ songwriter
Emi Meyer perform at the Montmarte Lounge in Hollywood. I have never been before and for a club it was huge with tons of swankin' expensive modern furniture, lighting and 3 bars! The show was a multiple act with art show, but I think the event didn't match the venue. Emi has a 4 song Ep trio style with drums, bass and a 'live at the Hotel Cafe' CD with 14 solo tracks. Emi recently
won 1st place in the Seattle-Kobe Jazz Vocalist competition and will be performing in a special concert in Kobe, Japan!
Check out these two beautiful songs from her EP

Above: Duk Bok Ki w/ Hope friends! Two really silly people; Aldo, Nicole. Monday Night boys eating. Biking to downtown; one of the stops. I just have to point out one piece in the news: Michael Jordan got fined for mentioning freshmen Kevin Durant. 15G's from Mike please!
Okay I got a lot of music to be posting, but it's seriously too much, so we will split it up. Here are twelve songs for a mid-week mix. The styles are really mixed up!
Two mixes of "Ice Cream" from New Young Pony Club. It's that song on the Intel commercial, I think thats the only reason why I like this song!
Watch these video(s) of Seu Jorge and Ana Carolina...just awesome.
Last but not least, Paul, Aldo, and me made this super stupid song on Garage band. It's dumb but you can give it a listen!

This
week we made two scores! I got a orange rusty 65' Schwinn Varsity for $30 and a 70s women's Puch for $10!!!!
Puch has a rich and interesting history dating back to the late 1800s and we were super lucky to get it! Last night we went for a ride! If anyone wants to go for a ride let's do it! YAYAYAYAYAY!
Okay now track back to Sunday. Lately the weather has been ultra hot! We had a picnic at the Broadmoor Park!

If you want all the pictures, heres the
link to download. Okay now for some
news One of the Iranian officials/advisors of 'art' recently went bezerko about the movie "300" because of it's insult to the Persians. First of all, everyone that has anything to do with America and Iran is an insult to them. Because Iranians don't like Americans. This is just my opinion...moreover the movie was awesome so that probably blinds my judgement and I am ethnocentric, yet again. +It's just a movie, we make WW2 movies all the time. Come on! George Bush Sr. is in Cali golfing in Palm Springs and he passed out. 90 degree + lack of water = it will do that to you. But he is doing well cause he has the best medical coverage I'm sure. 82 and going strong. Ford is making a pink car to get women drivers to drive it, as well as supporting Breast Cancer! Viacom is suing Youtube/Google for intentional copyright infringement. A beginning to no end I'm sure, but $1 bil is quite a chunk to start with. Sylvester Stallone is in trouble for smuggling hormone drugs into Australia. Okay idiots, he is 61 and promoting Rocky Balboa, how is he supposed to stay huge? He isn't smuggling it for a profit, he is just going to shrink if he doesn't have some supplement, COME ON! McDonald's might start to carry Pepsi, which could be a good idea, oh wait that makes American children hop onto diabetes II also. Starbucks is aiming to 40,000 more stores. CEO Donald says thats 6 shops and 350 new employees per day. Wow.

Some Stuff in the News, Bikes, and Music
Thursday, March 08, 2007
I think I want to get back into taking pictures. My friend Tim just got a new digital slr for his wife. How rad. The trees below were taken just yesterday at a nameless park in
Placentia, My home town 2.0 for the past couple years. I've always liked biking passed those trees. So there they are.

Yesterday William and I scored big. There was this really nice guy selling a Greg Lemond Elite 10 speed roadbike for $30!!!
WHAT?! He looks confused in the picture...where's waldo haha. And last night everyone spent sometime riding it, and they all rode it comfortably cause they have longer legs.

I think I am going to get a yellow or orange colored bike on Sunday, we'll see. Playstation 3 is doing a Second Life type of thing now. If you dont know what Second Life is,
click it. Sony is going to offer it to all PS3 owner/subscribers. I think it is gonna be huge! It's like myspace + visual representations of yourself (avatars) in 3D with shopping, apartments, live conversation and sharing of personal media.
"Home" is going to be the next big thing. In game ads and I think it's gonna be a machine of success.
If you haven't
heard, the
Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, seemingly pragmatist, for some reason decided to make some seriously idiotic PR moves and tell the world tha Japan is NOT sorry for comfort women and brothels during WWII. Women from China and Korea were taken from their homes, put into these brothels in Japan for the Japanese army during WWII. You can imagine the stories are
HORRIBLE! This does not help Japan's asian neighbor relations. That guy needs to reverse and just apologize. Why would anyone want to just start crap? But I am not from Japan, they must have one hell of an argument. I only know the side I can see with my own perspective. egocentric? or just Abe is gone nuts?

Educate yourself sucka.

Some
interesting things to note, The man who co-invented the TV remote, Robert Adler, died at age 93 from heart failure. Let's see, he help create the remote, won awards, contributed to culture and technology, I would say the failure in heart is non-existent. And!!! He died in Boise, Idaho. What a rad guy! As I was browsing through the
Idaho Statesman website, I found an awesome quick 7 photo gallery. Each on sums up a feeling I've had.
Take a look. In other News, XM and Sirius get serious (he..hehe). They finally merged. Ever heard of Second Life, think the Sims except more reality. Anyways AMD created some building in the game where people can visit and get interested in working for AMD. Wow.

This picture of Stephin, my roommate, and Gabby has quickly become my favorite. It really captures the love. Know what I mean? I finally finished the TalentOneMedia site. I still has some things I could work on but as for now it is up and running. Check it out here. Last night I was at Savon and the lady told me my pictures would be done in an hour, and it was passed 9. I assume that means they close later than 10. I got there at 10:14 and they were closed! This morning I complained a little and they gave me a discount. But yea...weird. I am still looking for a bike. Here is what I have my eye on right now. BTW I mentioned Scoops, realized I never gave directions to it...get them here with some helpful reviews. Stephin and I are going to go see Madeleine Peyroux next week on Valentine's! Whoohoo!
Alright I haven't updated for over a week! Firstly, check out this Pizzicato Five video, its interesting. Some new stuff fro Gutevolk!!! and Lullatone! Morr music has lots of new artists doing lots of great stuff including a band called Contriva from Germany. Check out that music here

New Music to begin your Weekss
Saturday, January 27, 2007
I previously have never seen this ad, possibly cause I was only 1 at the time. This is the 1984 Apple Macintosh commercial that was first shown during the SuperBowl. I watche it today at our training day for reps...which was super informational and I actually enjoyed it. There was a DE from Seattle named Kurt, whoop for the Northwest. Does the narrarators voice in this commercial sound very familiar? "For everything else theres Mastercard"...I think it's that guy.
I never realized how many MAC-overs Apple Macintosh computers have gone through. Check this wiki and be amazed (or bored) but I am way amazed. It is totally weird how I can't imagine not using a Mac...how strange. I got the new Ikea catalog...I wonder if the Ikea models buy Ikea furnitures.
Alright here is some new music to start off your week's.
Apples in Stereo - Same Old Drag Camille - Pâle septembre (French)

On Saturday I worked with Panache. I got to drive the van again! Mia and I drove it for a Bat Mitzvah, it was the longest one I've ever worked. We were there from 7am at the shop and back at the shop at 6:30pm. Whoaaaaaaaat! After seeing the dance themed party, I think I want one now too! My latest tank on my TDI was 583 miles. I think that is around 40mpg. Not Bad! I realized I hate a lot of things, one of them this week is TIME WARNER cable. Shun the monopoly. SSSHHH SHHHUUUNnnnnuh. Oh and here is a super funny video, still watch it every once in a while. How many more people are they going to hang? I mean really the electric chair is no cakewalk but this whole hanging thing is just...yea. Saddam Hussein's half brother was hanged yesterday. When the trap door was released, the gavitational pull on his body caused his head to snap off his spine. Strange that most news sites talked about that part more than what he did. There is this man named George Hood who recently broke a record for riding on a stationary bike for a near 85 hours. Now I know that is physically amazing, or is it? What would be the actual challenge to many athletes? Okay it is probably hard, really hard, but seriously what is to be proved by riding on a stationary bike? I think it's pretty strange useage of time, know what I mean? Down at the exec labs: The producers of ABC's LOST are finally plotting the end of the show. Jack and his friends gotta get rescued right? If not how long can they drag it on? Good show now but the execs made the right choice. Play it safe. Sell syndication everywhere, make a crap load on iTunes and DVD sales and get ready for the next good show! There are many sucky ways to die, one of them is definitely freezing rain showers. Sleet and rain crushing down on the pavement is no fun road to death. Record lows in California and storms running amok, end times? lack of global warming? Actually probably nothing from the ordinary, it's the winter time. Midwesters, stay warm and stay off the roads. In the meantime the ARMY really needs to send some serious emergency forces in those states. Thank God we are in California, however it is no reason to just "be fortunate" know what I mean? Beckham is gonna be on the LA Galaxy, I don't think he will popularize MLS or soccer in the U.S.; First off we have football, and the superbowl is coming up and then the NBA playoffs not to mention March Madness. Second of all Coach Fabio of Real Madrid has it tough, and I don't blame him. Beckham, hate to say it, is going after the fame and fortune. I'd say man is always driven by something, and a lot of times it is money. I think he sold out!!! He left the "Real" arena of futbol, left Europe, and all of his fans just for a bunch of endorsements. BOO! I already don't care much for the Galaxy, much less news reporting about a new player. (and yet I opinion blast my thoughts on it)Okay here are some new songs to feed your iPods or whatever.

If only I was a tree....sigh... Okay. Rosie O'Donnell and Donald Trump are such weird human beings. They are fighting. It is strange how a powerful person like Donald Trump can simply sue her on such small grounds. It shows just how powerful he is, and also how ridiculous he is. Rosie on the other hand is just nuts. Check out this video of Trump ripping her down. I am beginning to believe that J.K. Rowling will be involved in the armegeddon plot. (j/k J.K.!) Her 7th Harry Potter series book has a title finally; "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollws." The actress Evangeline Lilly who plays Kate Austeon on "Lost" recently had an unknown accident. Well her rented house with two roommates in Hawaii burned down or something. That sucks!
NOC College+ Christmas party. I'm the one bending to the side on the right. Christmas parties are so fun and really strange. I don't know why so I am not going to start trying. The more frequent they are, the more normal they become. Yay Sean, Me, Paul and Mia are working together tomorrow at Panache in Newport! I recently watched Nausicaa even though it came out a year after I was born. It's another from Hayao Miyazaki, it was really awesome, and the girl from Matchstick Men, Alison Lohman was the main characters voice! Patrick Stewart is also a voice on this U.S. release. Okay here is some music. Feed your ipod!BusDriver - Avantcore Cold War Kids - Saint John Ensemble - Disown, Delete (Ft.
