Lob that mix in!

Check out this interview with Jean-Paul Colaco, Hulu.com's SVP of Advertising.
Lots of good stuff in the news. Start reading!

The Rain Mix!

Wednesday, February 06, 2008

It has been raining a lot lately. At least where I am from. It just recently decided to call it quits. They say it has rained more in Southern California than in up North, places like Seattle, SF what have you. Bad times for Socal. Don't let the bad weather bring you down. I have got the perfect solution for your rainy times. A mix! It really has nothing to do with rain at all. So don't waste anymore time, download these tracks, throw them in your ipod, zune, on a cd, sound provider, whatever it is that brings music to your ears, and enjoy.

Bishop Allen - Rain

The Mae Shi - Run To Your Grave

The Deadly Syndrome - Emily Pants

Sound Providers - Autumns Evening Breeze

Those Lavender Whales - When You Think About Space...

It's Friday! That Means New Music!!!

Friday, January 25, 2008

Hey before y'all head out to your mountain tops and discos, I just wanted to bring up some great music from several artists. This is new music Friday with 6 bands you might have not heard of but ya just gotta check'em out. We're bringing back the weekedn iPod (or Zune) feed!

First up we got Brooklyn's The Epochs who will be releasing a self titled debut which is filled with a wide range of influences including this track which fronts a melancholy synthetic with their subtle vocals. Catch'em at the Mercury Lounge, February 12th.
Opposite Sides

LA's Robert Francis will be doing residency at the Silverlake Lounge in February. Grab a friend and head on up to one of his FREE shows to hear some beautiful indie folk. Violins and all of that!
One By One

The Oaks have a full length coming out in early March called Songs For Waiting and we want to help you anticipate this upcoming release. I really appreciate the deeper meaning in these songs which complete the beautiful arrangements of brass, Wurlizter, synths, tambuorines and one of my favs; the acoustic bass.
Masood

The Billie Burke Estate's Andy Liotta is all about styles of Costello, hints of Beatles, with his own touch of piano pop melodies and feely good lyrics. Happy Happy Happy!
Everybody's Gonna Die

Say Hi (former Say Hi To Your Mom) is releasing The Wishes And The Glitch in early February off the Euphobia Records, front runner Eric Elbogen's very own. See how you like the new sound!
Northwestern Girls

This band has 7 band members all under the age of 17. Berkeley's adolescent pop-mega Please Quiet Ourselves has combined some of that punky pop stuff with riffs galore...It's nothin' but fun!
The Light

Have a great weekend and be back here possibly Sunday night for more!
Also if you have some time this weekend, read up on the news. We need to know what's up in the lives of our peers in other places!

The End Is Near: A New Mix Is Here!

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

So it has been brought to my attention that the end of summer is getting closer as the days pass. I feel like I haven't really been able to enjoy summer the way I would've liked to. If I could do it over again, things probably would've ended up the same way. We decided to put together a mix to help facilitate the end of summer. Pop this into your ipods, go to the beach, watch the sunset, ride your bike, do whatever it is you do, and be happy. Summer will leave us and soon we will welcome autumn.

The Deadly Syndrome - Animals Wearing Clothes
Datarock - Fa Fa Fa
Meiko - Piano Song
Apples In Stereo - Energy
Ray Lamontagne - Trouble
Feist - Sea Lion Woman
Beirut - Elephant Gun
Like Lions - Make It Better

Check out "The Stash" if you haven't already.
Show wideeyed some love!

Happy Listening.

Anathallo & The BTS Mix!

Monday, August 20, 2007

Anathallo is an indie band from Chicago. They have unique experimental folk style which really makes their music their own. The sounds they play with come from a diverse arsenal of instruments such as bells, trumpets, the flugelhorn, trombones, the piano. They also use unconventional instruments like the sound of velcro or even pipes. To accomplish this is no easy task, but anathallo does it quite gracefully. Do your ears a favor and listen to anathallo now!

Hanasakajijii (four: a great wind, more ash)
Don't Kid Yourself, You Need a Physician
Gary and Marcus: The Sovereignty of God is Omnipresent

For me it's that time of the year again. A time that many people fear and dread, while others embrace and rejoice...Back To School. It's so hot in Southern California and I'm wishing summer was in its rightful resting place, 6 feet underground. I'm over you summer. I don't know what the weather is like in your part of the world. Maybe it's the same. Or different. Anywho, I made a mix for all to enjoy during the summer. So... Enjoy!

Death Cab For Cutie - Crooked Teeth
The Diskettes - Get Together!
Mae - Summertime
Mates of State - Goods
Grandaddy - The Crystal Lake
Royksopp - Remind Me
The Acorn - Brokered Heart
I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody's Business - The Best Happiness

For some reason this track won't work right if you try and sample it. So just download it.
Ponies in the Surf - Ventricle

Saturday, August 04, 2007

These days are busy.  YOU might be able to agree that we need some more time, some quiet time.  This is the SLOW mix.  I'm going to find a quiet place this weekend (hopefully) and just be silent and read my new Dwell, listen to this mix, meditate on important things in life, draw furniture that I want to make in my garage, and get some rest.  If you can relate, then I'll see you at your local bookstore, coffee shop, park, roof top, etc.  Let me know if it helped!
6Pence None the Richer - A Million Parachutes
Azure Ray - November
Bjork - You Only Live Twice
The Broadway Hush - White Courtesy Box
The Cardigans - Lovefool (Puck Version)
Straylight Run - Tool Sheds and Hot Tubs

Elephant Parade - Goodbye
Isolde - Andas in
Feist - Gatekeeper

We don't know how to Freestyle, but we Try!

Tuesday, July 31, 2007

What up friends, I have some pictures from Saturday night. It was a super rad show. Our friend Libbie Linton rocked and she performed one of my favorite songs, "What's Left" which was totally awesome live. Everyone else played beautifully. It was a show where I liked all the bands which is rarely the haps. Hope y'all had swell weekends. Sometimes when we are in the car, or anywhere else, we like to pretend we can freestyle. It's completely terrible but whatever. Here are the songs we've been laying our flows with. Some new, Some old.
Hazeem - 2 deep 2 sleep
Powell - The Year 2000
Madlib - Stepping Into Tomorrow
Oh No - Bouncers
The Nothing - They Live
Kinetic Stereokids - Barefoot in the Rain
Bonus: I love this Bjork remix....I think you will too! + The Ronson Coldplay song!
Bjork - Earth Intruders (Spank Rock Remix)
Cheekyboy - Coldplay vs. Ronson
Next up from me will be an acoustic mix, it's been long waited and I got a lotta stuff, old and new. See u next post!

It is REALLY feelin' like Summer now!

Sunday, June 17, 2007

Oh the weather is nice and hot now.  Chillin' at the beach yesterday was very nice.  I had some Egyptian food yesterday at a friend's Grad party.  His family was there and it was the most Egyptians I've seen outside of Discovery Channel's special on Cairo!  We are working on a summer music podcast, or just mix.  We've been listenin' to a lot of instrumentals and gettin' back to electronic.  Whether you're in summer school, full timin', vacay, or straight bummin' it, here's a really good mix of hiphop, instrumentals, downbeat, bossa, indietronic, and acoustic.

Last night she was Live at the El Ray Theater bustin' some remixes and recent albums.  She's one of the top Bossa Nova artists and needless to say is runs in the family.
Bebel GilbertoSem Contenção
An older instrumental hiphop track off of Tony Simon's sophomore "Downtown Science" of the Ninjatune label.
Blockhead -  Cherry Picker
Sweet Indie-tronic from their 05' release "Datarock Datarock"...This Norwegian duo serves it up dancey.
Datarock - Fa-Fa-Fa
June's Spaceland residents playing free  on Mondays!  Check out this catchy electronic tune.
The Deadly SyndromeThe Ship That Shot it's Self (Robot Mix)
Off his upcoming "Finding Forever" album droppin' July 31st.  Kanye produced this track.
Common - The People ft. Dwele
An oldie, but totally awesome, I loved these guys in the 90s
Garbage - Tell Me Where It Hurts
This Tuesday, The Procession and Castledoor will be playing at Spaceland, I am totally digging both of these piano rockin' tracks.
The Procession - Don't Hesitate
Castledoor - The Birds and the Fleas
She's done stuff with Elton, Sheryl Crow, and Rufus W. to name a few.  Joan Wasser the violinist and sing-songwrite with her band.
Joan As Police Woman - The death Ride
Rock-hoppin sample infused straight out of the Chicago indieground.
Kinetic Stereokids - Explosions were Heard
Breakbeat downtempo grooves from 06's "Days to Come"
Bonobo - On Your Marks
I think Los Campesinos means "Country folks" in Spanish.  I love the girl/guy vocals from this U.K group.  Makes everything so much fun.  The awesome indiepopness is droppin' by the U.S. for a couple shows in August but none on the Westcoast =(  pooey.
Los Campesinos! - Death to Los Campesinos!
I really like this style of singing, reminds me of the "NEW" 70s chillrock.
Map of Africa - Bone
One of my older favorite shoe-gazers! This song goes great to a backdrop of summer.
My Bloody Valentine - We Have All the Time in the World
She reminds me of Tilly & the Wall, whom I dig.  She also sings for Cryptacize, they are awesome too.
Nedelle - Ghost Ships
Acoustic Live version of a great song
New Amsterdams - Idaho
Last summer's "This Vital Chapter" from the Aussie indie poppers.
The Panda Band - A Call To Your Arms
More shoegazey dream folk pop, with Goswell's vocals.
Rachel Goswell - Sleepless & Tooting
The couple duet have a new album as of April on the Merge label called " Night of the Furies" which is more dancier, more poppier, and subliminal
The Rosebuds - Get Up & Get Out
First single from "Room on Fire"..it's the Oberserver single!
The Strokes - 12:51
This guy used to be in hardcore bands...hard to imagine unless you've heard of him.  This one is from "Walking Concert", another one of his projects.
Walter Schreifels - What's Your New Thing?
Our new buddies at Stones Throw Records sent us this awesome track from "Yesterday's Universe" which appears to be all Madlib produced with fictional names/aliases. But from all the new hiphop he's producing, it's super awesome to hear stuff like this jazz drumbeat stuff.
Jackson Conti - Upa Neguinho
Alright there you have it, 22 songs to start your week off right! Read the news! Lots of good stuff there.  Eat more vegetables/fruits.  Next week's post will include the health tips, remember those?  Okay people comment and let me know you're alive, also what state you are from!  Have a great week!!
P.S. Anyone want to help contribute to bbqchickenrobot.com?

If 31 songs doesn't help you, I ultra apologize. The bathroom at work is extremely comfortable, like your home. Texting while you drive is stupid. Californians love and rave about the beach, and yet many I know never go. Spurs vs. Pistons, definitely pistons. boo spurs. I love the wurlizter. Um sleep time, peace easy and hope everyone had a great weekend! Peace Love

Midweek Music Mix! Food for your Ears!

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

I'm really liking the new Blonde Redhead album "23" which has a great consistent sound with their other stuff. They are actually playing tomorrow at the Glass House and I am guessing the tickets are long gone. They will also be performing at Coachella with a gazillion awesome bands! I will do a short Coachella entry next week for some of my favorite bands playing. Something totally strange: The hits on my site go up around 75-120 hits on average a day. Who the crap is looking at this site? If you are reading this, hit me up with a comment. I'm curious. Alright here is some new music and some old favorites for the early midweek mix!
Blonde Redhead - 23

Mice Parade has come out with a self-titled new 7th album on FatCatRecs. For me it is highly anticipated. Beautiful new instrumentals with Kristen Anna Vattysdottir on the mics (and other interesting instruments). With Peirce's lead, Kristen's voice becomes less creepish and more essential to the sound. When it's there, it's there. Mice Parade will be ending their U.S. tour on the westcoast with 3 shows in California then heading off to Japan and Taiwan. You will definitely see me at the Echo in LA on Jun, 07th. The new CD is dropping the 8th of May.
TWO NEW songs just for you!
Mice Parade - Sneaky Red & Double Dolphins On the Nickel

Fun pop from another great Swedish band.
Agent Simple - Friday

A favorite Canadian group with a late '06 release. Def check out Blankets EP
The Acorn - Brokered Heart

Bear Colony - Sharks

Great Locals, also check out the music video via myspace.
The Bird and the Bee - Again and Again

One of my fav. 90s bands but a lesser known song.
The Cardigans - In The Afternoon

Dear and The Headlights - Oh No!

At the beginning he sounds like Cake...right?
The Foreign Resort - Morning

You know that girl you hear singing on those Sufjan tracks?
Katrina Kerns - Run With Me

Same way I felt about Michelle Branch, - high school and + rock.
KT Tunstall - Suddenly I See

Norwegian Singer songwriter. Why do accents disappear when singing?
Marit Larsen - Under the Surface

Moonbabies - Cocobelle

More Canadian goodness with a beautiful cello(?) at the beginning.
Oh Bijou - Widths and Curves

The acoustic version, thank you to Kharkoal.
Saves the Day - In My Waking Life

The State of Samuel - The Residents of Gloom

The Second Band - A Song I can't Recall

Seu Jorge - Team Zissou

Loe & The Nastys - Penny Waltz

The New Amsterdams - Stay on the Phone

Okay that's 21 songs for you to enjoy for a while. I will be updating less frequently (Like once a week) cause I'm getting busier. Does anyone want to be a contributor to BBQCHICKENROBOT.com? That would really help out. I will show you the ways of finding music...from what I know.

Someone brought up an interesting point the other day. We go crazy when people die in the U.S. and we careless when they die outside of the U.S....even U.S. troops. Would someone please tell me why?
Today a Chinese Oil field in Ethiopia was attacked by rebels and 74 people died and some Chinese workers were kidnapped. Feelin' the pain? Read up

A short post for a rainy day!

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

Above: Duk Bok Ki w/ Hope friends! Two really silly people; Aldo, Nicole. Monday Night boys eating. Biking to downtown; one of the stops. I just have to point out one piece in the news: Michael Jordan got fined for mentioning freshmen Kevin Durant. 15G's from Mike please!

Okay I got a lot of music to be posting, but it's seriously too much, so we will split it up. Here are twelve songs for a mid-week mix. The styles are really mixed up!

Justice - D.A.N.C.E
Psapp - Year of the Cat
Seu Jorge - Oh! You pretty Things

Ice Cream (Limited) & Ice Cream (Van She Tech Remix)
Watch these video(s) of Seu Jorge and Ana Carolina...just awesome.
Remember Blower's Daughter from Damien Rice? Watch it sung in Portuguese by two talented artists. É ISSO AI & Vestido Estampado & awesome tambourine skills! Comparsas
Last but not least, Paul, Aldo, and me made this super stupid song on Garage band. It's dumb but you can give it a listen! Jaldopaul

Case of the Mondays? Week 3 Mix is here!

Monday, February 19, 2007

Happy President's Day, whatever that means! Yay America. Okay it is Washington's B-day, he's like super famous. Go $1 dollar bill! Educate yourself sucka. Some interesting things to note, The man who co-invented the TV remote, Robert Adler, died at age 93 from heart failure. Let's see, he help create the remote, won awards, contributed to culture and technology, I would say the failure in heart is non-existent. And!!! He died in Boise, Idaho. What a rad guy! As I was browsing through the Idaho Statesman website, I found an awesome quick 7 photo gallery. Each on sums up a feeling I've had. Take a look. In other News, XM and Sirius get serious (he..hehe). They finally merged. Ever heard of Second Life, think the Sims except more reality. Anyways AMD created some building in the game where people can visit and get interested in working for AMD. Wow. read here.

Ever heard much British female soul singers? Me neither but this woman rocks it with funk, jazz and blues. Listen to this voice!
Alice Russell - Hurry On Now

I am still mystified about Camille. Think Nouvell Vague. Think French!
Camille - La jeune fille aux cheveux blancs

Another one from Sasha Dobson, it's really good relax time music.
Sasha Dobson - End of Autumn

Local guys and they got this shoegaze drapery going on, with some pop!
The Airborne Toxic Event - Does This mean You're moving On?

I love these guys, so here's another for you.
Apples in Stereo - Skyway

I heard of this lady, and my friend Diana reintro-ed me. It's got some soul and pop
Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Yours Records on

The new version from their Burning Birthdays EP, get it now!
The Harlem Shakes - Sickos

This band is ultra pop indie, but I like it! It sounds like 80s prom but cooler!
Lucky Soul - The Great Unwanted

Holy crap this song is ridiculous, but my buddy loves it and I now do too, go peers.
M.I.A. - Bucky Done Gun

New one from MAIA!!! YAAY! Different from her more acoustic sound but it's good fun!
Maia Hirasawa - And I found this Boy

Her voice will sound familiar. Maria Taylor of Azure Ray. Solo rules.
Maria Taylor - Lost Time

This song is super melo acoustic. But I'm sharing it caus it's good!
I Make This Sound - Macaroni Art, For You
More goods from these guys
The Silent Years - No Secrets
This band is super mega indie-pop machine. They're gonna be at SXSW this year whoop!
So So Modern - Upgrade your Chassis (It's a Pythagorean Party!)
Last but not least, Jonna Lee has a debut coming out soon. Check out this song from the unreleasd album
Jonna Lee - Dried Out Eyes
Remember "Don't Speak" by No Doubt? this is a dope cover, soul/funk by Leela.
Leela James - Don't Speak
16 new artists and songs for your ears! Happy Listening!
Hailey potter, just pretend you like at least one of them. Come on now.
