Wednesday, June 04, 2008

Austin, Texas rockers

With a history of a few line-up changes, remixes, EPs and a few full lengths, June 10th, will mark the release of their latest, Bad Vibrations! This release is filled with the beautiful cinematic instrumentations that they are known for. I'm here at the office with headphones on relaxing to to track after track of heavy arrangements of the vibraphone, viola, guitars and percussions. It's just beautiful, get lost in it! This is great stuff to day dream with in the background haha. Luckily for us you can hear it live! Check out their tour dates

Radiate Us With Neighborhood Suicide
Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Chicago's killin'em these days. I guess it's been big, but until a couple years ago did I recognize.
Radius has just dropped
Neighborhood Suicide, an amazing instrumental hip hop journey that flexes his sampling guru-itics as a producer from Chi-city! The new album is a reflection of the city, particularly certain neighborhoods mixed with Radius' personal emotions. The making of this album is heavy stuff. Luckily for us we on the other side with our ears wide open. Expect some breaky-ish, some experimental, lots of MPC classic history! More music

Sounds of Saxon Shore!!!
Thursday, May 15, 2008

Philly's own
Saxon Shore is making "movie scores without movies" packed with synthetics, drum machines, and lots of rad instrumentation. This vocal-less band is on
commercials and plenty of other things these days like MTV, Toyota stuff, MLB and Payless! Their latest is called
The Exquisite Death Of Saxon Shore with 10 beautiful new songs up to par with the likes of the old Mercury Program mixed with .Tape. craft. It's stuff you can definitely get lost in. We got two of these tracks and if you like what you hear...Get it

Escuchela....La Ciudad Respirando!!
Wednesday, April 16, 2008

What's up everyone! Sorry for the post delays, I've been extremely busy working on a short film which I'm super excited about. But we're back with an amazing triofrom Brooklyn, NY.
Look How It's Snowing Upwards, Look How They Move Towards Heaven, the 51-minute debut full length from
City Breathing is out now via the
Roses & Hello Label. City Breathing rocks a more heartfelt loopy post-rock sound with subtle lyrics and reminds me of my early favs the Mercury Program. It's beautiful, it's very cinematic and your mind gets a quick uncontrollable opportunity to paint pictures and dwell on past memories! It's good stuff you can get lost in. Sample these sweet tracks:

Gregor Samsa Gets Rest Soon!
Tuesday, April 08, 2008
Rest, the 3rd full-length from
Gregor Samsa, is filled with beautiful and heavy intstrumentation, organs and a great range of sound. Hints of drums, sparring vocals, and lots of classical indie sounds really caught my ear. This new album is defintely worth checking out! They are currently gearing up their
tour for May, mostly all around Europe...I think it would be very interesting to see. They'll be releasing this album Digitally, Unlimited Edition with diecut gate fold CD, Collector's Edition with only 30 prints and a limited Edition of 500 copies with an 8 page rivet book of artwork and lyrics! Creative to say the least.

Hey! TAKE That Thomas 2000!

LA's TAKE aka Thomas Wilson has just released The Dirty Decibels of Thomas Two Thousand via
Eat Conrete Recs. This special 12" Vinyl EP is packed with 8 tracks of awesome instrumental hip hop that could easily be spun at alien chill-out parties on Mars. This music makes you wonder-full and will have you crossing borders of melodic jazz samples with ambiotic bit crushing dopeness. This makes me very hopeful for the future of instrumental hip-hop which I guess would be one of the destinations. Order that Vinyl
here and check out the dope Album
artwork by fellow Dublab member Kutmah! We also got some digital versions below!

Case Of The Mondays With 65DaysOfStatic!
Monday, February 25, 2008

Hands down, these guys are one of UK's most hardest working bands. I've been following
65DaysOfStatic for a few years now and they've definitely got one of the best ranges of sound in glitch-post instrumental rock. Today they are kicking off a 4 month, 75-city tour (I lost count after 70)! WHAT?!!? Yea...hardworking. All over the world, they are solely opening for the Cure on many dates. Needless to say you'll be hearing about them for a long long time.
The Fall Of Math, the 2004 full length debut, will be released in March in the U.S. and The Distant and Mechanised Glow of Eastern European Dance Parties EP soon to follow in April via
Monotreme Records. Here are some tracks off of The Fall Of March and their latest
The Destruction of Small Ideas. Get that
here. Listen and get lost in it.

Explosions In The Sky: The Remixes!
Thursday, December 06, 2007

Have you ever been to a show where you are definitely watching the band and focusing but you start to think of other things? This probably is strange but I
know you're out there. Lots of times I catch myself thinking about all kinds of other things in life; past, present or future. The instrumentals of the band does something to my brain that causes all this stimulus. Like playing classical music or soothing ocean noises for new born babies, it is
doing something. I noticed this first at a Appleseed Cast show many years ago, then the same at a Mercury Program show, then an Album Leaf show. Not just scenary or background, but you are in it. Running, or laughing, it's crazy.
Since the early 2000s,
Explosions In The Sky have been messing with my mind. They say they are not post-rock at all, in which I agree, however I think it's cause they define it on their own. If you wanted me to give you an example of good post-rock, I would mention these guys and the aformentioned. Rock isn't just what it was anymore. Broadening the somewhat traditional with more rhythms, more harmonies and that sweet chord progression. I wanted to quickly highlight the remix 2nd bonus disc of
All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone. You've got bands like Jesu, Four Tet and Eluvium mixing with deep distortions, drum-a-sum, electronics through out and piano melodies. If you didn't get your chance, here it is!

Caribou's 2007 Tour CD
Wednesday, October 24, 2007

It's so crazy to me that Daniel V. Snaith is a Ph.D, not that smarties can't make music, but most musicians don't hold doctorates while trippin' on drugs and coming up with band names like "
Caribou" with Canadian roots living in London...yea that's right. The talent has remained the same, but the Manitoba almost get sued Caribou has progressed in sound, atleast since when I first heard "Start Breaking My Heart" in '01 under the Manitoba OG name. There's a special Caribou Tour CD being sold only at shows. It contains a mix that's over a half hour and includes 6 exclusive tracks! Luckily for you Caribou is touring, infact there's a show at the
Troubador this Friday for all you locals. Get the CD this weekend, in the meantime check out two of the tracks!

It is REALLY feelin' like Summer now!
Sunday, June 17, 2007

Oh the weather is nice and hot now. Chillin' at the beach yesterday was very nice. I had some
Egyptian food yesterday at a friend's Grad party. His family was there and it was the most Egyptians I've seen outside of Discovery Channel's special on
Cairo! We are working on a summer music podcast, or just mix. We've been listenin' to a lot of instrumentals and gettin' back to electronic. Whether you're in summer school, full timin', vacay, or straight bummin' it, here's a really good mix of hiphop, instrumentals, downbeat, bossa, indietronic, and acoustic.
Last night she was Live at the El Ray Theater bustin' some remixes and recent albums. She's one of the top Bossa Nova artists and needless to say is runs in the
family.
An older instrumental hiphop track off of Tony Simon's sophomore "Downtown Science" of the
Ninjatune label.
Sweet Indie-tronic from their 05' release "Datarock Datarock"...This Norwegian duo serves it up dancey.
June's
Spaceland residents playing free on Mondays! Check out this catchy electronic tune.
Off his upcoming "Finding Forever" album droppin' July 31st. Kanye produced this track.
An oldie, but totally awesome, I loved these guys in the 90s
This Tuesday, The Procession and Castledoor will be playing at Spaceland, I am totally digging both of these piano rockin' tracks.
She's done stuff with Elton, Sheryl Crow, and Rufus W. to name a few. Joan Wasser the violinist and sing-songwrite with her band.
Rock-hoppin sample infused straight out of the Chicago indieground.
Breakbeat downtempo grooves from 06's "Days to Come"
I think Los Campesinos means "Country folks" in Spanish. I love the girl/guy vocals from this U.K group. Makes everything so much fun. The awesome indiepopness is droppin' by the U.S. for a couple shows in August but none on the Westcoast =( pooey.
I really like this style of singing, reminds me of the "NEW" 70s chillrock.
One of my older favorite shoe-gazers! This song goes great to a backdrop of summer.
She reminds me of Tilly & the Wall, whom I dig. She also sings for
Cryptacize, they are awesome too.
Acoustic Live version of a great song
Last summer's "This Vital Chapter" from the Aussie indie poppers.
More shoegazey dream folk pop, with Goswell's vocals.
The couple duet have a new album as of April on the Merge label called " Night of the Furies" which is more dancier, more poppier, and subliminal.
First single from "Room on Fire"..it's the Oberserver single!
This guy used to be in hardcore bands...hard to imagine unless you've heard of him. This one is from "Walking Concert", another one of his projects.
Our new buddies at
Stones Throw Records sent us this awesome track from "Yesterday's Universe" which appears to be all Madlib produced with fictional
names/aliases. But from all the new hiphop he's producing, it's super awesome to hear stuff like this jazz drumbeat stuff.
Alright there you have it, 22 songs to start your week off right! Read the news! Lots of good stuff there. Eat more vegetables/fruits. Next week's post will include the health tips, remember those? Okay people comment and let me know you're alive, also what state you are from! Have a great week!!

MICE PARADE @ the Echo & Quick 6 Mix!
Friday, June 08, 2007
Last Night's show was supposed to start at
8:30 @ the
Echo. But the case wasn't the time nor venue. Due to serious technical/crapped systems & stuff not working, the show moved downstairs to Echoplex, begun around
10:30! The Echoplex is such a sweet venue and you can tell by the seating, larger stage, & the
clean bathrooms! (unheard of). Here are some pic of the show.
Kira Kira,
Caroline, and
Tom Brosseau opened with shorter sets w/ regards to time but Tom really rocked. Kira Kira played (played with) a lot of...things. Sounds like Mum + Sigur Ros.

Mice Parade is an anagram of Adam Pierce, the band's lead. The set included the usual ensemble; Doug Scharin of HiM, vibraphonist Dylan Cristy of Dylan Group (who last night was also lead clapper), Caroline "filling" Kristín's vocals (who did her a short 4-5 song set as an opener), & I especially took note of Dan Lippel's awesome strumming. Adam also doubled & bounced with Doug on a 2nd drum kit for "Nights Wave" if I remember correctly. Caroline did an awesome job w/ "Boatroom" from Bem Vinda-Vontade. They also played a few off their latest self titled album including "Tales of Las Negras" & "Sneaky Red"...If only the set was longer....
Quick 6 Mix
I have a lot of new music but haven't had the time to listen to much of it, but here are some picks of the week. They are all pretty indie-poppppy-ness!
Winter Kids - Hear Me Out
Castledoor - Burn the Maps
The Willowz - Evil Son
Kubichek! - That Pop Carry On
4 or 5 Magicians - Your Fictitious Character
Throw Me the Statue - Lolita
