FRESH JAZZ SUNDAY!

Friday, April 11, 2008

Okay so it's not Friday! But we still got some fresh music for you. I got busy, it happens. Actually I'm in the mood for lots of Jazz so I decided to dig up so new and old Jazz-esque tracks. Some old, some nu, acid etc. It's all really dope stuff. If you just listen to this mix you see that the Jazz sound has evolved so much and the dynamic of what people are doing to it these days is incredible. The elders never saw it coming. But soon after all the sound has changed, going back to the old LPs will be the fresh stuff. I'm listening to this mix at sbx, headphones on, reading Dwell. Check it out!

Emi Meyer - Sunrise
Madeleine Peyroux - The Summer Wind
Calvin Keys - Aunt Lovey
Bjorkestra - Human Behavior
Wanda Sa - Vive Son Hando
Mayra Andrade - Comme S'il En Pleuvait
Nicola Conte - Kind Of Sunshine
Chet Baker - Everything Happens To Me

This is what music woulda sounded like in high school, of course if we had pop beats. They're loud and here to have lots of fun (the ridiculous kind)! Team Genius is touring around NY. Catch'em all!
Team Genius - Sing Song

The Mercury Program is one of my favorite post-rock instrumental bands who haven't been doing everything except making more music and touring. I dig these guys and I was just recently reminded of their past awesomeness so here's a track off their All The Suits Began To Fall Off EP.
The Mercury Program - Marianas

Our friend Emi Meyer recorded this Live at the Hotel Cafe here in Los Angeles a few years back and I think you need to listen to it now!
