Getting Down With Brazil's Superpose!

Tuesday, December 23, 2008

Who says Christmas can't be a dance party? Well I guess it could if someone would "elctrotize" some holiday jams. In the mean time check out a new interesting duo from the small island in Brazil called Superpose. They are an interesting mix of disco and rock that sounds like some electro dance joint. I particularly enjoy their song Move My Baby, it has remix stamped all over it. They've only been around for a year and already have a dope EP. Hopefully we'll find an album for them in 2009. Check out their Move My Baby and the Database remix.

Lambs Anger! Mr. Oizo's Latest

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

This French electro house party never seems to end. Nor does it get old! With the help of fellow house happy labelmate Sebastian Tellier, Mr. Oizo will be rollin' out a new one called Lambs Anger via Ed Banger Recs of course. This album is a bit different that the usual Mr. Oizo, it's got more of a dancey feel, more electro, and definitely some house...I guess ya gotta give the people what they want?! Oh by the way, did you know Oizo is pronounced "Wah-Zoh?" I thought it was "oy-zo" as in 'coy.' Learn something new everyday. Could someone explain to me about the cover of this new album, is that Flat Eric getting a nice shave from a barber? Or is someone killing him? aww you can't do that to Flat Eric. Sad sad day. Anywho check out that album near past mid November. In the meantime enjyo a track and check out one of those cute Levi's Flat Eric Oizo commercials.

Extending Parties With UK's South Central!

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

Another awesome epitome poster child brain child of the electro, disco punk, dancey craze that you honestly can not get enough of. UK's South Central is droppin' a new one called The Owl of Minerva later this year in December. It's totally thicked with an an energetic 2-man DJ/Production duo and a 5-piece live band that creates a whole lotta indie dyanoooomite. Also that video below is giving me robotic seizures and yet I've watched it 100 times in a row. Somebody stop me!!! Needless to say, if you want to dance, get the new single and catch them on tour with Does It Offend You Yea? Also scour the net for their remixes!

Does It Offend You, Yeah??! El Rey Show!

Friday, May 02, 2008

One of the best things about concerts is that if the music is pumping enough, everyone is moving, no one is worried about whether they look good. The music gets you moving, and keeping in time is effortless and fun.
Does It Offend You, Yeah?, a crazy new UK electro outfit, brought fun to the stage in a pounding, mashed-up sound perfect for dancing.

Playing at the El Rey last night, the band took the stage just before 9 pm, the lead singer, a vision straight from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, starting the crowd up quick, leading into a dance-happy and hardcore emo sound that blended perfectly. Devo-style beats met screaming, creating a sort of new wave hardcore. A cowbell was on stage by song 3, and the crowd screamed the lyrics back as a high school ballad of crushes turned synth-hardcore rocked the house. Synthesizers and drums kept the tempo up, the crowd on their toes, the drummer practically snarling in concentration, the keyboard/synthesizer trucking away. The second vocalist and lead guitar brought the emo, his beanie pulled down to his nose, swinging recklessly around and paying no mind to the mic stands that were falling into outstretched arms. Both vocalists played with giddy abandon, one shoeless, the other ending the set swinging his guitar over his head, each spending time on top of an amp to sing down to outstretched arms.

Dawn Of The Dead
Se7en

Followed by headliners Yo Majesty, the crowd waited in anticipation to see if one of the singers actually exposed herself, as one fan claimed was normal behavior for a show. Taking the stage close to 10:30, the women of Yo Majesty brought rap to the table at breakneck speeds, backed by a couple of very talented female break dancers who set the group apart.

Both at last week’s Coachella Festival, the fan base for each is growing, Yo Majesty solidifying a connection with their fans, and Does If Offend You backed by original songs and an obvious ability to charm a live audience, check out a couple songs from each and see what you think for yourself!

Mylene & DJ Periferico Are Telepathique!

Tuesday, April 01, 2008

When I first heard Telepathique I thought "What? Brazilian Electro-rock?" which in fact was later found to be accurate. Their new EP Love & Lust is out via The Control Group and has an interesting genre bending, wide range of sound. DJ Periferico goes from percussions to turntables and back in one track, while mixing in Mylene's vocals and making all out danceable rock songs. If anything, these guys are another great example of groups and bands experimenting with sound from everything to D&B to rock with all kindsa noise. Check out these two tracks from the EP!
