Dignan Takes On Deeper Territory

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Dignan is a little bit different from other bands I've heard. Rather than stick to one generic sound or one generic mood, these guys take it to another level, that is, a level of realness that one rarely has the courage to display or enter into. This is sacred territory, and sometimes and oftentimes it isn't very pretty, happy, or elevating. But it is honest. These are the kind of lyrics this five-member band creates on They're Outnumbered, "We're slaves to our worst fears, if our secrets are revealed, we'll sink deeper and deeper and still you won't listen... we need love."

Some of their songs have a musicality reminiscent to Album Leaf, due to the use of such instruments like the xylophone and steady, melancholic melodies. Other tracks, like Curtains, incorporates choral elements that resemble the congregational anthems used in Arcade Fire.

Whether or not you dig the resemblances, listen for yourself. Dignan is touring with All Get Out.
