The Karoshi Bros. Love The World!
Tuesday, August 19, 2008

I've recently come to realize that UK's Karoshi Bros. really just want you to get up and dance, a lot...maybe even forever! The dancey pop hit The Original dropped late last year but now we got the mixes done up by peeps like Ingo Star and Magik Johnson. Don't about their personal lives but if you open your ears, you'll know they are gettin' some mad play. Check out Love The World on 7" vinyl available
here. We got one of them digital for you below!

It's Time For More GIRL TALK!
Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Joining the tradition of releasing music untraditionally,
Illegal Art and Gregg of Girl Talk are rollin' out the brand new album, Feed The Animals, with a "pay what you want" fee. That's right, pay anything you want
here, to get that hot new album. But if you drop atleast $5, you also get a special big mp3 of of all the songs connected as essentially one long party hog! The tracks were meant to be all hooked up. If you drop $10, then you are pre-ordering the CD which rolls out in September.
Feed The Animals is Girl Talk's 4 full length with lots of popular songs mashed out with older songs, beats, and loops. Check and stream the album
here. There are some really dope things about this album that have been growing on me throughout the day. With the amount of songs that are mashed in, you'll definitely find something you like!

Does It Offend You, Yeah??! El Rey Show!
Friday, May 02, 2008

One of the best things about concerts is that if the music is pumping enough, everyone is moving, no one is worried about whether they look good. The music gets you moving, and keeping in time is effortless and fun. Does It Offend You, Yeah?, a crazy new UK electro outfit, brought fun to the stage in a pounding, mashed-up sound perfect for dancing.Playing at the El Rey last night, the band took the stage just before 9 pm, the lead singer, a vision straight from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, starting the crowd up quick, leading into a dance-happy and hardcore emo sound that blended perfectly. Devo-style beats met screaming, creating a sort of new wave hardcore. A cowbell was on stage by song 3, and the crowd screamed the lyrics back as a high school ballad of crushes turned synth-hardcore rocked the house. Synthesizers and drums kept the tempo up, the crowd on their toes, the drummer practically snarling in concentration, the keyboard/synthesizer trucking away. The second vocalist and lead guitar brought the emo, his beanie pulled down to his nose, swinging recklessly around and paying no mind to the mic stands that were falling into outstretched arms. Both vocalists played with giddy abandon, one shoeless, the other ending the set swinging his guitar over his head, each spending time on top of an amp to sing down to outstretched arms.Dawn Of The DeadSe7enFollowed by headliners Yo Majesty, the crowd waited in anticipation to see if one of the singers actually exposed herself, as one fan claimed was normal behavior for a show. Taking the stage close to 10:30, the women of Yo Majesty brought rap to the table at breakneck speeds, backed by a couple of very talented female break dancers who set the group apart. Both at last week’s Coachella Festival, the fan base for each is growing, Yo Majesty solidifying a connection with their fans, and Does If Offend You backed by original songs and an obvious ability to charm a live audience, check out a couple songs from each and see what you think for yourself!

Mylene & DJ Periferico Are Telepathique!
Tuesday, April 01, 2008

When I first heard
Telepathique I thought "What? Brazilian Electro-rock?" which in fact was later found to be accurate. Their new EP Love & Lust is out via
The Control Group and has an interesting genre bending, wide range of sound. DJ Periferico goes from percussions to turntables and back in one track, while mixing in Mylene's vocals and making all out danceable rock songs. If anything, these guys are another great example of groups and bands experimenting with sound from everything to D&B to rock with all kindsa noise. Check out these two tracks from the EP!

This whole DJ party cut & paste, sampling electro dance thing is so crazy right now (and has been for a while). Everyone's remixing, and on a serious note; giving the party people what the
need. The UK's stupefying house bangin' duo
The Count & Sinden are no different (that's right, I said stupefying!). This song of theirs is based around a beeper page and we got a new remix for you too! Check this incredibly dancey machine track featuring Kid Sister

Whether you need to brush up on your dancing skills in the living room, or the club DJ couldn't "cut" it for you last night, we got you
covered. And Yes, we've had our moments with rap song-to-song fade in/out DJ sets and lighting that makes you sit and calculate how cheap it all costs at your local party store. Luckily for us there's
Mark Farina! He's done up over a dozen releases but we wanted to touch up on his latest,
Live In Tokyo. This 72 minute beat-for-beat dance stream packed album was recorded live last summer in Tokyo and released few months ago from the underground giants
Om Records (Samantha James, Sessions, Colette).
He's made some sweet selections on this album including Myungho Choi, Dan Cummings and Leon Louder with some of that rad organ keyboard throughout. This is definitely one of best dance electronic albums and just another everyday boasting of Farina's skills. Head on over to his
site to hear and see more including Muchroom Jazz, Session mixes etc. Also get this album now
here. And of course we got some of them tracks for you to sample. Get some of that chill funk now!

Case Of The Mondays With Shinichi Osawa!
Monday, December 03, 2007

Happy Monday! Sorry for the lack of updates, the BBQ headquarters have relocated and now we're back online! Today we bring you to the world of
Shinichi Osawa! As you can tell from the picture above, he's a DJ bringin' you the heavy dance and electro you love/crave. I love the sampling of vocals (i.e. Au Revoir Simone) on several of these synth driven tracks. If you're currently into the indie dance craze, Shinichi is the Japanese love child of Daft Punk, Digitalism, and Soulwax.
Mondo Grosso (Italian for "Big World") is his solo name as he does producing and mixing for lots of artists. Mondo's got your house, techno, underground club covered as we are
told he has the largest sellout DJ sets in Japan.
I have been raving about this game on PSP called
Lumines, because of the music and visual coordination, turns out Shinichi produced the music! Shinichi's
The One (
Avex Trax) dropped a cuppa months ago and you can get it
here. I saved the craziest part for last...Shinichi Osawa is 40 years old! Whut!! When you can finally get over that, definitely check out his live sets and shows!

Most Of The Remixes By 2 Many DJs!
Friday, November 02, 2007
2 Many DJs are at it again, and again, as Soulwax, and Flying Dewaele Brothers amongst other names. These guys from Belgium do alternative but these days it's their remixes. Under the alias 2 Many DJ's they've recently released
Most of the Remixes, a double CD of remixes and remixes of remixes--Re-remixes. wow. Earlier in the year we dropped one of the tracks on our BBQ mixes. There are artists like the Klaxons, LCD Soundsystem, Kylie Minogue, Daft Punk, Gorillaz and DJ Shadow to name a few.
The late 90s brit pop album makers continue to do their thing under "Soulwax" with their undeniable classic mash-ups and bootleg party essentials. We got some tracks for you of the over 2-hour dancie-tronic DJ set. The title of the collection is
101 words long, yea..crazy, we won't reveal it here. Just an excellent compilation of dancefloor knowhow.

HIDDEN DETOUR PARTIES w/ Ed Banger Recs & The Villians!!!
Sunday, October 07, 2007
I heard about the
Hidden Detour Party about two days before the event and I had absolutely no idea what to expect except that there would be lots of dancing. And I guess that's all we really needed to know! Boost Mobile & Fader put on 2 parties at these hidden locations in LA and the only way to go was to rsvp/text to get a text back of the address on the days of, raver status true. We went Friday night for the
Ed Banger crew.
Quick History: Pedro Winter a.k.a. Busy P runs
Ed Banger Recs since '02, it was part of Headbanger Entertainment. Most of the acts are French electro/house DJs and Artists including heavyweights
DaftPunk! Friday night was one of the best DJ live sets we have ever heard/seen/experienced. Some of the DJs included Kavinsky, So-Me, Justice, Mehdi and of course Busy P. We danced to mixes, remixes, mashups done way proper on the 1s and 2s of Feist, Beastie, some old school, lots of dance and house beats. You could definitely feel the anticipation from all the boiling point build-ups and follow-the-leader beat drops. LA brings the eclectic crowds out; clubbers to indierockers and Rec heads to some older folks (dance knows no age). I remember
Googling the location, street viewing, and realizing there wasn't really anything there other than some random/regular downtown warehouses. Turned out to be a
perfect spot.

These parties of course were lead-ups to Saturday's
L.A. Detour Festival which included Moving Units, The Ed Banger Crew, Teddybears etc. etc. I do say good show.

Gregg Gillis is Girl Talk
Saturday, September 22, 2007
Gregg Gillis does not consider himself a DJ. Gregg Gillis is an artist of sorts. He samples pop-music from any decade, any imaginable genre and throws it together. The end result is something truly amazing; an intricate collage of lyrics, beats, and hooks mashed together to make music. Sampling artists such as James Taylor, Trey Songz, Notorius B.I.G., Elton John, Kanye West, Phil Collins, Weezer, and Mike Jones; for Gillis there are no rules. Anything with a beat, anything with words, anything goes.
On top of his mash-ups, Gillis has done remixes for several artists including Beck and Peter, Bjorn and John. Just recently Gillis quit his job to pursue music full-time. He will be playing
shows almost every single weekend from now until January! Now that is dedication at its finest. Go to a show, dance your pants off,
buy the album and show some love! Gregg Gillis is Girl Talk.

Moving Units Are Back With Hexes For Exes!
Thursday, September 20, 2007

It's about time the
Moving Units get their sophomore out. Their heavy bassline driven indie dance tracks from 2004's
Dangerous Dreams really hit it big with the post-punk dance that everyone is lovin' on these days. I remember that album on vinyl rotation at a friend's house after a fun night, a mini dance party, they're the best.
Hexes For Exes has just a tad less catchy dance grooves and a little bit more of that good indie sound (I said tad). I previously loved that bit of funk they brought early on but this album's still got more than enough upbeat catchy indie rock to get you movin'!
Moving Units will be performing Oct. 6th at the
LA Weekly Detour Festival in Downtown LA with Justice, Sebastian & Kavinsky, The Deadly Syndrome etc. They will also be playing at Popscene in San Francisco on the 11th. Should be some great performances. The album drops October 9th and as always we got some tracks for you so enjoy and be sure to pick it up if you like what you hear!
