I just listened to Asleep In The Wake and it's easily one of my favorite albums of 2009. Melanoid is the solo workings of Los Angeles based John Hanson, who has been compared in good intention with Thom Yorke. There's a heavy influence there and we didn't skip out on the Radiohead references but seriously isn't that an extremely good thing? The debut album is lyrically thick, playful, and full of beautiful songs that boast Hanson's arrangements and vocals. I'm listening to the album, then I get to Early Grave, then it's hit me that this is definitely the track of the day. It's not only stand out, but it exudes a bitter sweetness that reminds me of the end of summer, beginning of fall. It's seriously good.
