Wintersleep Welcomes YOU to the Night Sky!
Saturday, July 26, 2008

After a successful 2005 self-titled sophomore fully,
Wintersleep is back on the scene with their brand new album,
Welcome to the Night Sky, set to drop in mid October. These guys have already received acclaim and a Much Music Award for their
Weighty Ghost music video. Also these Halifaxians are touring in support of that album with Wolf Parade and others! Just some really good indie rock and my favorite is when other members of the band rock with their back-up vocals on choruses and echoes. Check out two tracks below and hit their tour
here.

French Artist elodieO's Stubborn Debut!
Thursday, July 24, 2008

Where to begin? When I first heard
Wake Up Without You it began with a subtle, darker electronic sound but swiftly developed into a funkier disco beat.
ElodieO's soft haunting vocals over her own arranged and composed electronics creates an interesting experience of various complimenting moods and tempos throughout her new debut album.
Stubborn drops August 19th and features guesties like Aaron and Jesse of the Brazilian Girls and the Cure. Also her French lyrics over the down tempo is real rad. We'll be expecting some kind of tour from the French artist in the near future so be on the up and up
here.

Pocketknife's Adele Remix!

It took me a while to get to this so hopefully there are still a few out there who will find this to be new!
Pocketknife has rolled out an awesome new remix of Adele's Hometown Glory, that was for Adele's camp but they rejected it and so of course, without going to waste, we all get it for free! I don't know why they would reject something like that but no matter to us I suppose. The track we got from Cousin Cole is an exteneded version so you get over 7 minutes of this remix.

My Drive Thru from Below The Clouds on Vimeo.
This is one of my newest favorite vids. It's a collabo of the Strokes' Julian Casablancas, Santogold, and Neptunes producer/ N.E.R.D. member Pharrell. The song was created for Converse's centennial and was released in June 2008. Also here's the track incase you don't have it bumpin'!

The Avett Brothers' Second Gleam!
Monday, July 21, 2008

We didn't really discover the
Avett Brothers until recently and it's not a moment too soon. Tomorrow the brothers from North Carolina will be releasing their beautiful 6 song follow-up to
The Gleam and
Emotionalism.
The Second Gleam EP contains more of their subtle acoustic singer-songwriter delivery with very real themes on life. Apropos, I love the stand-up bass. Check out the single from The Second Gleam EP below! It's a really warm love filled song about family and growing up. I love it! They're also touring so check the
dates!

Peachcake Debuts!

Come later October,
Peachcake is finally releasing a full length debut titled
What Year Will You Have the World? They've got some serious history as they've been on and off together for over 5 years. During their various hardships, they released an EP via Jimmy Eat World's label Western Tread which really introduced their electronic, synthy pop sounds led by Stefan and John's vocals. Peachcake is encouraging you to bring mix-tapes to its shows (CDs, tapes, etc.). Bring one and you will be entered into a raffle to win a copy of the new album. If you're mix is one of the top 3, you'll win a special Peachcake prize pack! We were lucky to get the single from the forthcoming
album! Check it out below and check their 'The Make Mixes, Not War Tour'
tour dates.

Fania Likes It Like That!
Friday, July 18, 2008

A couple months back, the salsa heavy, latin soul shop
Fania Records, released their first (certainly not last) remix collection called
I LIKE IT LIKE THAT. Some dope DJs and producers including Louie Vegas and Aaron Jerome have remixed Fania heads like Pete Rodriguez and Héctor Lavoe to a new beat! Check out this track and go pick up the albummmm.

Jay Brannan 'Can't Have it All'
Wednesday, July 16, 2008

So I really dig this new guy,
Jay Brannan. He's got a really light smooth voice, that pairs awesomely with the light guitar picking on his tracks and simple melodies. In a way he kind of reminds me of a simpler, happier version of Jason Mraz meets Sondre Lerche. It's lighter fare that reminds me of happier times, but with lyrics that are straightforward in their storytelling narrative.
My favorite is "Can't Have it All" below, and "At First Sight" which addresses issues like responding to craiglist ads and not loving the guy you're sleeping with. Interesting, haha.
He's got some tour dates too so check them out if you like what you hear.

Courtney Marie Andrews brings some lovin' from Phoenix
Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Thanks to one of our readers, we were introduced to Courtney Marie Andrews -a Phoenix native, songwriter, guitarist, banjo-ist and singer. This folk indie artist has brought back something that a lot of popular indie music has been lacking lately - depth and substance. I love the banjo, guitar picking, the accordian, vocals and harmonies.
Here's one her videos, and of course, check out her myspace

Psychic Stunts' 101 Pick Up Lines
Friday, July 11, 2008

The Stockholm duo,
Psychic Stunts, have a new EP called
101 Pick Up Lines which in fact are a small handful of songs that refer to pickup lines! I wanted to specifically tell you about their catchy synth pop single
Speaker's Block. In finalizing the song, they had a release show of sorts where everyone got to participate in singing the chorus for the recording. Check out the video
here. You can get the songs here and we got two below for you.

Happy Tuesday! New York's
The Mood has just rolled out their brand new 6-track record
Synaesthesia via their own label Outright Rock Records! These guys bring a lot of dancing indie pop fun with sweet harmonies from cousins Argiro and Corinne. It's perfect for the summertime. With a couple EPs already released, The Mood is well on their way to some serious indie stardom not to mention their shows at CMJ, SXSW, and recently featured tracks on MTV's
The Real World. Watch for a tour this fall...in the meant time you can grab their new album

The Zoos Of Berlin!

I'd have to say this self titled 3 track EP from Detroit's
Zoos Of Berlin is very strong and makes for a good case to anticipate a full length! I first gave a listen to them after hearing that one of their band members also plays for Pas/Cal which has a new one out! The beginning of these three tracks really set the tone for the songs, slowly introducng the vocals with subtle instrumentation and electronics. Their mellow sway heavy experimental sound makes us look forward to a debut hopefully rollin' out soon! You can pick up that EP
here. Check out the track below!

Ernest Jenning. Also they've got residency at NY's Pianos so definitely go check them out. We got two tracks for you off that new album. ENJOYYY!

Make Space For My Milky Way Arms!
Saturday, July 05, 2008

Houston's
My Milky Way Arms are currently touring in the East coast/South in support of their beautifully crafted and highly imaginative self-titled EP. I just listened to the entire thing and realized it would have been a way better soundtrack to last night's fireworks than the songs about how dope America is. Don't get me wrong, I dig that stuff but these EP tracks are electronic snug fits in my ears! These are heavy electronic and cinematic symphonies with swaying vocals you can get lost in. Something Neat From Pogo
Thursday, July 03, 2008

Okay okay I know you guys have already seen this, but I wanted to post it for our friends who need things to be compiled into one place. I think the Aussie, Nick Bertke aka
Pogo, is definitely onto something dope here with his electronic down tempoey ambient steez. His awesome sampling skills have amounted to the viral videos Alice and White Magic which seems to me like "sampling" from videos to the sounds as well. I read somewhere that 80+% of the sounds are actually from the Disney animated movies Alice in Wonderland and Sword In The Stone. Whatever it is, they are sure dope to watch. Watch these vids, and then download the songs to take with you!

We've Got Pretty Good Dance Moves!
Wednesday, July 02, 2008

Do you ever sing and dance in your car? This week on the way home from the studio I've been listening to lots of
Pretty Good Dance Moves! Their dreamy electro-pop reminds me of a girlier loungier Postal Service. It's got the subtle synths of some of my Japanese electronic outfit favs. They use quite a range of instruments from vibraphone to mogs and you can definitely make it out when you get their new self-titled EP rollin' out July 17th! Takka Takka's Migration out July 29th

Brooklyn's own
Takka Takka are releasing their sophomore album
Migration July 29th. It's got bits of world music, from cowbell to gamelan and little sonic bits here and there. It's this interesting amalgam of sounds that I would never have pegged to fit together, but somehow it does. The result is a sound that's semi-meditative and chill. A lot of critics have likened it to indie-music for "self-conscious loners."
We've included
Everybody Say, which I really like, that has a line which goes, "Who died?/ Who died?/You." a bit bleak but does challenge you to kind of meditate on what you've been tolerating in your life and letting get the best of you. And I like "She said: 'Take it easy'/ 'But it's hard'/Take it easy'" I really like that kind of encouragement.
Perhaps these kind of introspective lyrics are influenced by lead singer Gabe Levine's mother's spirtual awakening and the subsequent conversations between them that ensued.
Just check it out.

Takin' It Back To VICIOUS VICIOUS
Tuesday, July 01, 2008

Although the Minneapolis rock band
Vicious Vicious hasn't had a near recent release, I have been listening to them non-stop, especially
Here Come Tha Police, off their
Don't Look So Surprised album. Their latest, Parade, dropped last September continued their progression of sound with what I thougt was a little bit more mellow but then I heard Charmed which rocks out. You get a good blend of the pop keys with touches of shoe-gazey electronics. And just for you, I have selected a song from each
album.
