Psychic Ills need no crystal ball on Mirror Eye

Monday, December 15, 2008

The new Psychic Ills record Mirror Eye is the proverbial jam sandwich. Mercurial, clairvoyant, and rooted in percussive elements, the songs chug along through fog and smoke as if they were visions handed down to the group by an unseen higher power. The album is a result of extensive experimentation by the band members after having spent a majority of 2007 working on other projects. Foaming synths, tribal-esque drums, and quivering wispy guitars add to the already soundtrack-like album feel. This record is a perfect fit for spelunking in Morocco, which I'm sure all of us do every now and then, right? The band is set to follow up Mirror Eye with a mini-lp in the winter with tunes from the same period.

Mirror Eye is out January 20th on The Social Registry
