The married couple, Kori Gardner and Jason Hammell, of Mates of State give new meaning to super parents. Originally from Kansas, they left San Francisco for Connecticut and married in 2001, already knee deep in there success as Mates of State. Their music is a product of the great chemistry they have both as performers and a couple. Fans pack their shows waiting for their faces to be blown off by the immense of love and sound emanating from the stage. You can’t help but feel like there is a chance for happily-ever-after after having experienced Mates of State.
Now with 2 kids, they’ve managed to complete their fifth full-length album Re-arrange Us set to be released May 20th via Barsuk Recs. They’ve fulfilled the wishes of awaiting fans filling it chock full of vicious harmonies and catchy melodies. Staying true to their essence of quirky indie pop, they introduce a more mature sound with the use of a piano and string instruments in place of the expected organ heavy sound. Compared to previous albums, this on has a more chill sound, with softer vocals and relaxing piano riffs. Still , it compliments their evolution perfectly.
