The End of a friend, and a new Beginning..

Wednesday, November 30, 2005

Phoenix and the Turle formed after a collaboration created at a funeral. Hailing from the exciting adventerous lands of the Inland Empire, PatT has quickly become one of my favorite bands. But Johnny what does this instru-experimental arty-prog 4 peice have to offer? I love this band because of Vall's dope violin skills. The movements with piano and violin are stinkin' amazing. Have you ever intentionaly felt cathartic from sound? I watched some of their videos and rocking hard with guitars and drums, shredding strings on the violin, and random placed vocals make this band emotionally charged, highly melo-melodic induced, and full of crashing symbals and pianos. My heartbeat beats to these songs. I dig when bands mix female and male vocals together. Oh the beautiful violin...ahhh...
Phoenix and the Turle by William Shakespeare (6th stanza)
"Here the anthem doth commence:
Love and constancy is dead;
Phoenix and the turtle fled
In a mutual flame from hence. "
Check these 3 songs off their latest ablum:
Sunday is a good Day to Relax - "
Pencils" <---this song is pretty much amazing
Sunday is a good Day to Relax - "Pianos"

Finally some positive Statistics!

Denver Dalley, used to be in the band Desaparecidos; remember them? It was the band with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes (they suck!). Now Dalley is solo doin' swell since '03. Statistics' full length sophomore cd 'Often Lie" was dropped in mid summer '05 and it's got some great songs! The lyrics are pretty simple yet story telling, with heavy guitar, echo-on-the-Dalley, and just an all around good sound. Easy and fun to listen to and Dalley's voice really sets the tones for his lyrics. Oh and they have electronics galore and a distortions candy store! Another dope band from JADETREE <---dude they are jawesome.

Check out these songs from the Statistics
Often Lie - "Final Broadcast"
Leave your Name - "Reminisce"
Self Titled EP - "Another Day"

More music from the Northwest! The Robot Ate Me

Monday, November 28, 2005

The Robot Ate Me trio, hailing from Anacortes,WA, is the band on the down low. Their catchy happy lo-fi poppy grogged out tunes are mixed with some swankin' style, folky guitars, and electroloopies. The lyrics tell of fun stories and goodtimes or strange subjects about the world such as using the word "genocide" in one of their choruses. The Ryland Bouchard's voice sounds like Chris Martin (Coldplay) cept with more of this sleepyhead whispness. Some of the songs remind me of Cake. I pretty much dig it! They've got 3 awesome CD's out off the Swim Slowly label with their latest 'Carousel Waltz' which has some rad righteous songs! Tell me what you think of the lyrics and sound, It's good I know huh!!

Check these songs out!
On Vacation pt. 1 - "On Vacation"
On Vacation pt. 2 - "The Genocide Ball" <---this song is so ill son!
They Ate Themselves - "Our Bones were Chalk"
and check out this video of " On Vacation"...it's it's...just watch.

Soft rocks pretty Hard + Portmanteaus!

Dino sounds like Ben Gibbard (DC4C, PS) + Chris Conley (STD) + and almost Darren Hayes (Savage Garden). This band has a great sound, laidback and fresh. I don't know if it's an actual tambourine but they use it and it sounds jawesome! They have only been around for like barely two years and they have a two CD's including the new SOFT EP! They got this semi flowey pop sound with a cool beat. The vocals and rocking is kind of like a cloud that you can drive with free effect petals built right in. These 5 guys are from different states but they've come together to bring you MUSIC! Look what friendship can do!

Check these songs and tell me what you think!
Off of the SOFT EP - "Higher"
Off their 1st album - "Droppin'"

Okay I totally didn't know these are sorta legit. Portmanteaus are "blends" of words. You can look up these words at the Wiki list of portmaneaus. Words like "Crunk","Bootylicious","brownload", and "beefalo?" Check out this list, It's so weird and yet you'll know like most of them!

The Bullet Proof 15 piece from the BK

Ensemble?! Orchestra?! Black White African Asian?! Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, the increidble culturally diverse instrument machine out of BK, NY, has been play-doh molding out beats since the later '90s. Smash your soul, your afrobeat, your '70s color, international jazzy fazzy funky downtempo with roots, political scoops, and dope drum loops and you get the inspired rythms of dubby cumbia dash clash straight groovin' Antibalas. You know those dope fresh smooth-like tunes on movies like Ocean's Eleven and drug smuggling/ gang mob movies? Pump Antibalas in your car and you'll feel like you're living a soundtrack. Their diverse, percussion induced synch talent is a reflection of their New York home. Two degrees of collaboration: 15 mixed junkies and a wide-range of sound. The thing I love about them, they contribute where they can! Not only to music as a whole but they have stuff like the "Afrobeat Sudan Aid Project" (ASAP) which is helping people in the Sudan from stuff we take for granted: Food, Water, Life. They are also serious anti-war, but more about the lies and such of governments. Go check that dope beat sound!

Download ASAP from iTunes now!

EMO! and 3 more weeks of school?

Sunday, November 27, 2005

Sunday's Best: I listened to this band in high school. Enough said.
The Jealous Sound: I listened to this band freshmen year of college. Pedro Benito does the vocals and guitars for both bands. Tony Palermo from Ten Foot Pole is the Jealous Sound Drummer. Remember Knapsack? The singer Blair Shehan is the singer for Jealous sound. These are two not so super popular emo bands mixing some power pop and indie sounds. Check them out!

Sunday's Best - "The Salt Mines of Santa Monica"
Sunday's Best - "Too Soon to Laugh"
The Jealous Sound - "Anxious Arms"
The Jealous Sound - "The Fold Out" <---this song almost sounds like HIM. Right?

um... 5 pictures!

Saturday, November 26, 2005

My sister, she's 23, lives in Korea town with my Uncle, Aunt, and cousin, all pictured in the family photo. For one of her projects she had to cut out magazine clippings and make ..well.. me on a bike. It took 2000 pieces just to make my face. WOAH!!! and then she had to paint what she made. Can you tell which is the painting?

This is my family for Thanksgiving at my Uncle's house. (L to R. Sister Angel, G-ma, Uncle, Aunt, Cousin Anna
)
My sister posing next to the poster she made!

This is a picture of Jona bear with a super silly face. That little yellow dot is totally the moon. From the top of the ferris wheel at the Irvine spectrum.

Okay so my sister said I should bring drinks and a dessert. Mission was to make it sugar free for my G-ma. I chopped up, cut, peeled oranges, honey dew, strawberries, grapes, mangos, peaches, and pineapples. Froze them all. Bag of fresh pecans, low sugar coconut (hard to find), Low Fat organic vanilla yogurt, Low fat vanilla soy milk. First I took the fruits out and put them in a big bowl. Poured the yogurt into the bowl and watched as it naturally covered everything, then I put a little soy milk in it and then topped it with the pecans and coconut shards (shards? you know little peices). The fruit slowly melted with the cold yogurt creating this almost sherberty sorbet taste for each fruit. I was proud of myself, and It tasted pretty swell. Ask me to make you some.

DENALI: broken up with killer female vocals!

Denali, almost sounds like a girl emo band, none indie sound elbows behind back light stomping shrill shriek sorta thing. They have electronic beats and I don't even see where the other band members have room to play, but then again some of their songs are just rockin'. It's weird. But it's normal. This is NOT just another female vocal sound, gotta hear them. To feed your ears I've found some great links to their demos and mp3s off of their two albums. My favorite album was their self titled first album Denali which debuted in 2002 off of Jade Tree, Their second album Instinct released a year later is still pretty rad! Marua, the singer pretty much has an amazing voice and their instruments go so well with it. Also their lyrics page, and dude look at these rad designs on their merch page, I wish I was a girl!
Just check them out!

Denali - "Gunner" and the music video
Denali - "Relief" and the music video
Instinct - "Hold your Breath" and the music video

Have you ever wanted to be a TRANSFORMER?

Friday, November 25, 2005

These are halloween costumes taken way too far. Mark of Marksprojects is a TRANSFORMERS freak! He builds/creates custom transformable Transformers costumes. Pictured left is StarScream of the Decepticons. This costume can transform into StarScream's jet form WHILE YOU'RE IN IT! Imagine a halloween costume where YOU can TRANSFORM into a car or a jet with working lights! It's so insane it hurts to think about it. How much are these amazing costumes? The costumes will transform your wallet into around $4000 debt. Please check out the other costumes, they're almost creepy. Think if Mark was your dad, you wouldn't need T.V. or toys. Mark claims to have won tons of $$$ and free stuff at various Halloween contests. I believe it cause I made a crappy 15 minute robot costume and won 200$ at a club last year against 20-30 scandalous cats.

And I thought I loved the Transformers....

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!

Thursday, November 24, 2005

TOP TEN things I'm thankful for (in no particular order)
1. Family & Friends - People in my life like Leah, Tim Hsieh, Joanna, Johnny Hsu and the whole IV crew, Phil, Jaime, 208 crew, Ma, Pa, George and just everyone!
2. Intervarsity, but moreover a place where God isolated me to grow (california; who would I be without moving here? discovering continues!)
3. Another beautiful day! (weather)
4. Of course Jesus Christ for being our ultimate example, and for washin' us up!
5. Animals ..Yea I just love them.
6. Education - learning about my surroundings, learning about people (in california), college, this crazy experience.
7. Robots & Music (that's kind of two but this is my list so..)
8. Having a heart, mind, brains; three things I take for granted
9. LIFE - ever thought about lungs pumping? hearts beating? muscles tensing? fingers typing?
10. FOOD!!

God...he's the mega. Where would I be without the things I can be thankful for? Where would the world be without GOD? Let's not wait to thank God. WRITE out your top ten thanksfuls or top 100! and post them in your bathroom, monitor, mirror. Eventually you'll memorize that list, and make sure to just thank God when you are driving, brushing teeth, washing dishes, playing a game. ANYTIME for ANYTHING! God knows we are thankful, but trust me he wants to hear it from our mouths. Kind of like when someone knows you miss them but they want to hear you say it heehee. So anyways let God know, NOW!!!!

What do you know about Mayflower?
-December 11th, 1620 = Plymouth Rock = celebration in 1621 for a bountiful harvest.
-Governor Will Bradford - the term turkey was used by the pilgrims to mean any sort of wild fowl.
-No Pumpkin pies here, instead boiled pumpkins. No milk, butter, potatoes, cows. (we are so stinkin' lucky)
-In 1623 the pilgrims prayer for rain during a drought , And rain it did. Hence Thanksgiving part 2!
-In 1676 was the next Thanksgiving. (WOAH!) The FIRST NATIONS were not invited this time because they were celebrating a victory over the "indians" ....yea....stupid
-In October 1777 all 13 colonies celebrated Thanksgiving
-In 1789 George Washington proclaimed the National Day of Thanksgiving. People didn't like it including TJ...what a jerk
-SARAH JOSEPHA HALE, she is this magazine lady who wrote presidents and governors for 40 years about why Thanksgiving was a dope idea!
-In 1863 FINALLY Lincoln said the last Thursday in November will be the National Day of Thanksgiving!
-In 1941 Roosevelt signed a bill; Congress passed it = sanctioned as a legal holiday as the 4th Thursday in November.
-So this tradition officially is only 64 years old but it's been goin on for over 150 years!!!
NOW YOU KNOW!!!!! NEXT TIME PAY SOME ATTENTION IN HISTORY CLASS!! WAHOO!!!
(yea okay so the First Nations got cut-out, it makes me mad, sad, but I'm glad the tradition we celebrate today has a more positive meaning. It's not just mash potato, stuffing, turkey...It's all about a God fulfilling his plan and blessing us with family and friends to share our lives with.)

I am truly thankful for YOU!!!!!! Without God I wouldn't know myself.
Check out my MYSPACE page for pictures of these family and friends I speak of.

Just some girls and their synthesizers...

Wednesday, November 23, 2005

Well I'm talkin' about two very strange Japanese women, Noriko Tujiko and Gutevolk.
I just found out about Noriko like a couple weeks ago. From Osaka Japan, Noriko was a struggling musician and did a lot of projects for other artists. She was eventually picked up my MEGO and released her first cd "Shojo Toshi," in 2001. Her lyrics are all mostly in Japanese with the occasional English (sounding) words. Her glitch avant-pop melodic sound is a type of rising genre in Japan and she is nothing short of the leaders. Other albums like I Forgot the Title and Hard Ni Sasete are a combination of random sounding synths, playful keyboards, wavy instruments alongside Noriko's pillow soft and meshy rythmic vocals.

Check this song out called "
White Film" and check out the video for "FLY"

Gutevolk, a.k.a. Hirono Nishiyama, has 4 ablums and has been part of many projects including vocal participations for geniuses like Takagi Masakatsu. Her light, quiet, soundscapes with a piano, bass, and violin create background music for a hot air balloon ride leaving Jupiter's atmosphere. Her incredibly clear and soothing vocals clash perfectly with her curiously fresh-cut undiscovered elecro-jazzy recordings. I have no idea how I found her. She is currently working on her new album as well as touring. If you like the ambient organica, or you are just wondering what I'm blathering about defintely check out these mp3s. She was on a Yokohama tire commercial, hehe.

Check out "Sora" from her album Suomi.
This is "Light Parade" off of Twinkle. <---first song I heard.
If you like what you hear, I have both of her CDs so e-mail me!

Everyone bring it in like.. "IT'S THE L!"

Tuesday, November 22, 2005

Lexicon, brothers Gideon and Nick Black (a.k.a Oak & Fury), are these white rappers tryin' to take it back from a dieing genre called HIPHOP. Yea, I mean hip hop, not gangsta g rap. Oak and Fury along with their DJ Cheapshot have around 3 albums out there. They have some new stuff coming out to compliment 'It's the L' and 'Youth is Yours' releases. Right now they have 4 new tracks to check out. Support these guys as they, like others, are trying to pull back the essence with the elements, as well as hold true to the hip hop scene. It's dope that there are groups out there still trying to keep it alive.

Check out their new music here.

tex·tu·al (tĕks'chū-əl) adj. - a combination of piano and computer keyboards....

Textual, a side project, is a manifestation of a 100 trains steaming through electronic railroads with keyboards and synths tied down on tracks waiting to get smashed! David Lebleu (Papercranes, Mercury Program) has collaborated with bands like Hydra the Sea Serpent and laying drum tracks for Prefuse 73. The sound is very mellow with drum beats & loops. It's the kind of music you want to play in your headphones when people watching at an airport while sitting on a bench waiting for your flight.
Take your bike, put Textual in your pocket and take these dreamy electronic produced progressive sounds to the beach as it will help your mood take a care-free ride.
Stiffslack released Lebleu's 17 track Hindsight Sunglasses (Japan only) E-mail Dave and he'll hoox it from Gainesville. Stiffslack also has like a ton of rad Japanese bands from indietronic to Jazz vibes.

The Album Leaf, stuffing, mash potatoes, & other great sides...

Monday, November 21, 2005

Jimmy LaValle is the icelandic exploring Californian who contributes where he can; Tristeza, The Locust, BHP, and GoGoGo Airheart. Calling the Album Leaf a side project is a mega understatement. LaValle, and a militia of instrument junkies have put together 4 awesome cd's packed with vivid strings, beautiful organics, intriguing samples& loops, and subtle guitar strums all mixed with nature scene inspired soundscapes. I got to see them perform last year with sean b and Todd p at the Glasshouse in Pomona . They had these amazing videos of just a bunch of random stuff as backgrounds which really twisted the environment (which I helplessly got caught up in). It was an invitation to images and inspirations which perfectly compliments their sound when they are jamming out beauty from their amps.

They have a newly re-mastered EP out called "Seal Beach." It has 5 live tracks recorded when they went on tour with Sigur Ros. This is music you play to your childhood, it's like games of hide-and-go-seek in a secret village in the God green crisp painted Swiss Alps.

If you are into piano, violin, subtle beautiful, quiet thinking music, you should check AL out, and if you're aren't into all that, then you should check out AL anyway. If you find any of their B-sides, EP's or other rarities be sure to E-mail me and hook it up!

Check out their music Now!
"We Once Were (Two)" is off their album An Orchestrate Rise to Fall
"On Your Way" is off their album In a Safe Place
Also be sure to watch the "On Your Way" music video. It's everything you could ask for, seriously. Comment and tell me what you think.

10 Norwegians+ Ja22tr0nics = JAGA JAZZIST

Jaga Jazzist, straight out of Norway, remind me of John Coltrane with an Avant helmet and a pride of robots manufacturing an unprecedented sonic ensemble. How can 10 humans with 15+ instruments collaborate a sound topped with electroloops and manage to perform an incredible feat at every display? Yea..I don't know. It's like a million people tuning into a broadcast with endless signals and a satellite beaming back one thing that everyone wants but nobody understanding the journey to their cable box. Jaga is easily one of my favorite bands. I'm convinced. They make music for romantic robot music videos.

Their latest cd, A Living Room Hush, is their l8est gr8st from early summer 2003. It's like this 1/4 electronic, 1/4 jazz, 1/4 classical, 1/4 Avant Gard and a 100% chill-out reward to your ears. Subtle to fast paced, genuine to inventive.
Jaga is on the NinjaTune label with others like Kid Koala, Daedelus, and Skalpel.

You must check out these songs!
One is off of their first full length, What We Must - "Stardust Hotel"
This one is my favorite song: A Living Room Hush - "Airborne"

Messaging for no reason yesterday directed me to ULAS. Ulas's first words were "at last!...." which refers to our longtime mutual absence of communication. Ulas was a guy I lived with in Turkiye and someone ultra dear to my heart. He works at a "Cinema."
I totally miss him . 75 degree nights of watching bootleg movies, eating watermelons Efes Pilsens hahaha. Alright nobody gets it! Ulas as "Darth Vader" and personality pic. I think that's why we got a long so well. Arkadas Ulas

I don't take the bus ne-mor but the driver was there

With the sun shooting 90 degree weather rays Busdriver brought some of his own weather. Busdriver along with Radioactive and Daedelus, spit out their caffeine humor infested sting string sample organ looped light speed lyrcisms and multilayered sounds to CSUF where all 20 people who enjoy twisted-avant-rubberchicken-hiphop sat and watched enough sweat to fill the pacific spill like King Kong's drool. Who else would run around in an ocean sized basement mixing sugar rush lyrics and jazzy feet beats in the dark? They look normal but their political funk jammin' everyday situation theme packed songs will make you laugh, agree, or replay to understand.
Some dope songs off The Weather - "Glorified Hype Man" and "Sleep Standing Up" This is an Instrumental from Daedelus - "Girls"

Busdriver & The Weather pics, check'em out

A picture my friend Elaine Sung (she's chinese) took in Hong Kong. It's dope.

Mighty, Danger, Mickey, and Modest Mouse! (Mice)

Okay to make things clear, I don't know anything about Modest Mouse other than they have like 10 Full Lengths, Been around since the earlier '90s, 4 guys in their band, AND they are from Washington! (Chalk one up for the Northwest!) sidenote: Northwest = Idaho, Washington, Oregon. duh!

I just wanted to share a song off their newest album Good News for People Who Love Bad News called "Float On".

"Ok don't worry we'll all float on, Even if things get heavy we'll all float on"

It's got simple lyrics but it's like the dude says "Yeah, man! #### it! I can't be worrying about that ****. Life goes on!" The whole song is about not worrying, and I think these days we are killing worry to death.

Download "Float On" and TONY: "Aw, fogget about it."

ROCKET! ROCK! of the ATOMIC SWINDLERS

The thing I find totally strange and awesome simultaneously is that this N.Y. sci-fi glam rock psychedelic trio (now a 6tet) creates a hip spacey vibe filled with themes of a galactic measure and a super sonice extravagance. This is for post punk junkies with a favor flavor feel for female James Bonds who use laser guns and futuristic spacecraft. Ever seen the movie CQ? Yea this stuff is like that.

Some Common words in their lyrics: Sky, Star, Planet, Moon, Sun, Water, Atmosphere galaxy. Atsronomy 101 + Electricity + 6 musicians and probably some drugs = Atomic Swindlers. They are really this '70s Intergalactic alien robot retro-fashion-meteor loving-futurist group of weirdos.

" Did you walk on green today?
Did you feel the cool wind move across your face?
Did you raise your hand andBlock out the sun..
Whisper my name and yours like they were one? "

My favorite off their only album titled Coming Out electric: "Float (my electric stargirl)"

Like a Million parachutes... Sixpence None the Richer

So I started one of thos BMG 11 CD's for a penny things that were way popular back in the 90s. My mom got so mad cause they kept sending us CD's and I built this angst brick for brick everytime one of them came. We'd send them back, Anyways those things suck! I did however get two CDs that I can remember that I actually liked. "Tragic Kingdom" by No Doubtand "This Beautiful Mess" by 6Pence None the Richer. I never really was into the Christian music stuff but I did like sixpence. They got their name from a cut in C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity. I particularly liked a song off their late 2002 album "Divine Discontent."

"A Million Parachutes" is one of my most favorite songs. I want everyone to hear it and then comment and tell me how it makes you feel. I listen to this song and I think of back home in Idaho when snow is falling and even though its 3:22 in the morning, it's bright from the snow. It's fireplace music. An acoustic package of quiet relaxtion molded by reminiscent mood forming lyrics. Come on! Just listen to it and tell me you don't think of one of the good times! This is actually one of those bands that was homemade at church from the sheer mutual love of Christ. I love Leigh Bingham Nash's voice, especially in this song. Get three markers, uncap all of them, and use all three to draw a squiggly line, that's Leigh's vocals and echos with those simple yet captivating piano/bass/guitar rolls.

Sixpence None the Richer - A Million Parachutes
I can't describe it any further, Check it out, I guarantee you will like it, and that you won't find it anywhere else on the net. Thanks to Johnny J Hsu for hosting some of these musics!

Bonus: Sixpence None the Richer - Don't Dream (It's Over)

The babies of Puget Sound: Death Cab For Cutie

Saturday, November 19, 2005

First off, I just picked my nose and it is bleeding. LOLler sk8!

Okay so I'm guessing some of you are wondering what in the crap Death Cab for Cutie means. Simply the NORTHWEST!>seattle band got their name from a song titled "Death Cab For Cutie" composed by a band called Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. Check out those lyrics. I think it's about a girl (she's a Cutie) who is almost going to cheat on her lover but he knows about it and the song is like a warning/karma thing. Anyways don't CHEAT on your specials! Bonzo Dog are like this jazz rock band from who cares when. 100 Curiosities have now been fulfilled!

Now that's out of the way, If you're a fan you know PLANS was released almost 3 months ago. DC4C's 6th full length album. I personally liked some of their previous but DON'T BE FOOLED, PLANS is still dope. Their sound is contagiously consistent and their seemingly light capabilities of beautiful piano potential defintely are poured out into this album.

My favorite song off the album: Track 9 - "What Sarah Said" and what did Sarah say? I read somewhere that she said "Love is watching someone die" The tragic thought of one day you or your loved one will have to watch the other die. AHHH! SAD!!! Listen to it over and over, I'm guessing collectively fans could possibly create a sea of salt water.

In the meantime Enjoy these

UGLY DUCKLING = bike speakers + iPod

First time I met sean b. ,he was rockin' their name on a red shirt. I had no idea what/who Ugly Duckling was. From infused jazz-influences to smooth alternative rap tracks, Dizzy, Young Einstein, and Andy Cat pulled from the traditional Westcoast cRAP to create isolated sounds in the later 90s. UD's 3 CD's including Freshmode are bursting with verse mixed with utilized Tribe, DP, and De La Soul precedents.

"MEAT SHAKE: Taste the Secret" which is totally unique with it's satirical story line about veggy type's VEGGIE HUT and their battle against the "Meat to the shizzake" Meat Shake corporation, has a song I particularly like called "Turn It up" that has simple drum beat, catchy trumpet-like loop, and like other UD tracks it talks about something simple as making your sounds heard via speakers. My favorite lyric in this track: "Now there's only way to play it, that's (louder)Loud enough to turn your brain to clam chowder"
One Phrase to describe them: "FRESH IT!" No sticky icky here, just a buncha meat shakin', creative cuts and lyrics.

Check out "TURN IT UP" and "Do Your Thing"

BOSSA NOVA! Okay had to update Once more!

Over 200 Brazilian reporters, cultural icons and musicians gave their top 3 favorite songs. What is the raddest Brazillion song out there? (I don't think they used the word raddest)
Out of the top ten raddest songs, 7 of them were from Antonio Carlos Jobim. To say Tom is a brilliant bossa nova braziliian geniusis the very definition of understatement. His capability and creative capacity can be found in infinite spaces. You have defintely heard of "Girl from Ipanema", "Corcovado", and "Desafinado."

My All-time Favorite: A duet with the late Elis Regina. "Águas de Março," is by far one of the most incredible songs I have ever heard. Why do all the greats die so fast? Born into the working class in 1945, professionally singing at the age of 12 to the highest paid and most popular singer in Brasil at the age of 21, Lady Carvalho in early 82, after being married a barely thrice, and having 3 baby Regi's, she was found dead from intoxication and cocaine in her Brazillian blood at the age of 36. With an overature of non shy-sense political eyes and a short collapse with the "guerillas" of the military, Elis, still to this day, has proven to be just as captivating even after life. I didn't appreciate the Bossa until I saw a commercial with Astrud lougin' out the words of "Quiet Nights of Quiet stars" It was the only time in my life where a TIME Life music informercial was swallowed down my ears. I began to appreciate the Genre, and finally realizing the movement.
Saying all that and leaving you dry? NO WAY
DOWNLOAD and melt your speakers on replay. "Águas de Março" - Tom Jobim & Elis Regina

Don't know Portuguese? Check out the Translated Lyrics. (Yea I wanted to know what they were saying too)

Of the trillion covers of Águas de Março; This is my fAdd Imageavorite. It's by Cibo Matto aka the wildly imaginitive Yuka Hond & Miho Hatori. They are a totally whole new story. Their lyrics are extreme in all directions leading up to FOBish sounding vocal collages with players like Mike D from the Beastie Boys. You know Noodle from the gorillaz? Yea thats Miho. Check out their version; "Águas de Março" - Cibo Matto
